๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. NUG Ministry of Education Strongly Condemns Airstrikes on Aung San University of Liberal Arts and Sciences

February 1, Radio NUG

On January 30, 2025, at around 12:53 AM and 5:30 PM, the junta forces conducted at least eight aerial bombings on Aung San University of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Magway Region without any ongoing clashes. The attack resulted in the tragic death of a local student, Ma May Myat Nwe Pwint, a 20-year-old first-year Myanmar language student. Additionally, a CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) professor, two innocent students, and two civilians were injured. Temporary university buildings were also damaged, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Education under the National Unity Government (NUG).

The statement expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased student and those injured, condemning in the strongest terms the junta’s inhumane actions. It denounced the indiscriminate bombing of innocent civilians, including those pursuing education, labeling the attacks as war crimes committed by the military council.

The NUG highlighted that such targeted bombings of educational institutions and civilian residences violate international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, as well as international human rights laws. The actions constitute war crimes prohibited by the United Nations Security Council.

The ministry affirmed that detailed records of these deliberate attacks on peaceful students and educational facilities are being maintained. Efforts will be made through various legal avenues to seek justice for the affected students, teachers, and civilians. The statement emphasized that the NUG will continue its fight alongside the entire population to achieve a peaceful and just Federal Democratic Union in Myanmar as soon as possible.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Myanmar Embassy in the UK Rejects Letter Requesting Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s Release

February 1, Radio NUG

On February 1, Ko Htein Lin, son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been unjustly detained since the military coup, attempted to deliver a letter addressed to junta leader Min Aung Hlaing at the Myanmar Embassy in the UK. The letter called for his mother’s immediate release, according to Ko Htein Lin’s social media post.

He stated, "Today marks the fourth year since my mother’s unjust detention. I went to the Myanmar Embassy in the UK to submit a letter requesting the Commander-in-Chief, Min Aung Hlaing, to allow me to meet with my mother."

In the letter, Ko Htein Lin expressed concern about his mother’s health, writing:

"My mother, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, has been detained for exactly four years as of February 1. She has been denied effective healthcare and necessary treatment. She has not been allowed to meet with representatives of the International Red Cross or communicate with family members. This action not only disregards the results of the 2020 general election, which was chosen by the people of Myanmar, but also violates my mother’s fundamental human rights as a citizen and a human being. I am not a politician; I am simply a concerned son worried about the health of my nearly 80-year-old mother. I join the voices of the people of Myanmar and the international community in calling for her immediate release. I also request permission to travel from the UK to Myanmar to personally meet with my mother."

Ko Htein Lin reportedly rang the embassy doorbell multiple times, but no one opened the door to accept the letter. He eventually had to leave the letter inside the embassy and read it aloud in front of the embassy.
