๐ฉ๐ฉ (4) AJAY Urges a Quiet Observance of Thingyan in Mourning for Those Lost to War and Earthquake
April 13
In remembrance of those who lost their lives due to the ongoing war and the recent devastating earthquake, the Yangon-based anti-junta resistance group AJAY has called on the public to observe the Thingyan Water Festival in silence this year.
AJAY stated that civilians continue to suffer from widespread hardship caused by war and natural disasters—both consequences of the military junta’s oppressive rule. The group urged the public to commemorate the lives lost by quietly passing the days of Thingyan, in a gesture of mourning from the people to the people.
Highlighting the compounded suffering, the group condemned the junta for continuing aerial bombardments on civilians already reeling from the massive earthquake’s destruction and loss of life. The statement stressed that the public is now submerged in a sea of suffering.
"The month of Tagu and the Thingyan Festival are upon us again. But the destructive earthquake has already served as a harsh reminder that we—the people—need not read another tragic Thingyan message; the suffering speaks for itself,” AJAY declared.
The group also criticized the junta for pressing ahead with the construction of Thingyan pavilions, calling it a slap in the face of the suffering public. They described it as an embarrassing display of mismanagement by a thoughtless regime.
In addition, four Yangon-based revolutionary brotherhood organizations have also encouraged the public to mark Thingyan quietly and safely this year.
They emphasized that this moment is a crucial phase in the revolution. While honoring Myanmar’s traditional New Year, they called on the public to remain mindful of the unfinished struggle—urging everyone to contribute, even in small ways, to the ongoing revolutionary journey.

๐ฉ๐ฉ (5) Myeik District Battalion (1) Cancels Construction of Thingyan Pavilion for Fundraising Lottery Event
April 13
Myeik District Battalion (1) announced today, April 13, that it has officially cancelled the construction of a Thingyan pavilion that was initially intended for a fundraising lottery event.
Previously, under the slogan “Start Afresh with Thingyan,” the battalion had been selling lottery tickets to raise funds. A lottery draw to select the winners was scheduled for the first day of the Myanmar New Year, and a dedicated pavilion was under construction for the occasion.
However, in light of the March 28 earthquake in Sagaing, which caused widespread devastation and loss of life, the battalion announced that it has decided to cancel the pavilion construction out of respect and sympathy for the affected public.
The lottery draw itself, however, will still go ahead as originally planned—on the first day of the Myanmar New Year—but it will now be held in a scaled-down format at the Myeik District Battalion (1) headquarters, the statement added.
This report was submitted by Radio NUG correspondents Ko Khant and Tharki.
