๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. NUG Acting President Expresses Hope that Pope Francis’ Successor Will Be a Religiously Inspired Advocate for Peace in Conflict Zones Like Myanmar

NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La has expressed his earnest hope that the successor to Pope Francis will be a deeply committed religious leader who actively supports peace processes in conflict-affected countries like Myanmar.

He stated,

“The entire global Roman Catholic and Christian community is now mourning the passing of Pope Francis. I feel their grief deeply. Pope Francis was a consistent and passionate advocate for peace in our country, and he kept us in his prayers. Notably, he was the first Pope to ever visit Myanmar in over 500 years of Catholic history. I sincerely hope that his successor will also be a dedicated spiritual leader who actively engages in the peace process in countries like ours, where peace has not yet been achieved.”

Both the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the National Unity Government (NUG) have issued official statements of condolence over the passing of Pope Francis.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Junta Intensifies Airstrikes on Civilians, Crossing Beyond the Limits of a Conventional Enemy, Says Prime Minister

During a government meeting, Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than strongly condemned the recent intensification of airstrikes by the terrorist junta targeting civilians. He remarked:

“Following the powerful earthquake, we announced a temporary ceasefire in affected regions to allow for humanitarian relief efforts. However, the terrorist junta has instead escalated its aerial attacks, deliberately targeting civilians in recent days. It is disheartening to witness such actions. The enemy has surpassed what is expected of even a hostile force. Therefore, we must remain alert and prepared, making the most effective use of the limited time and resources at our disposal.”

One such incident occurred at around 9:55 AM on April 18, 2025, in Leik Kyay Village, Thabeikkyin Township, Pyin Oo Lwin District, Mandalay Region. Without any ongoing clashes in the area, two military aircraft dropped two bombs on the vicinity of the Aung Myint motorcycle dealership and Swe Myo industrial workshop.

The attack killed a total of 12 civilians—8 men, 3 women, and 1 child—and left many others injured.
