๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. "This is a Time to Demonstrate Humanity and Resilience," Says NUG Foreign Minister

(April 1)

The current situation calls for the application of humanitarian values and a demonstration of resilience, stated Daw Zin Mar Aung, the Foreign Minister of Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG), in a social media post.

"We fully understand and deeply empathize with the concerns of our people and the revolutionary forces fighting for the Spring Revolution. There is a legitimate fear that if we fail to remove the military dictatorship, it will only prolong its oppressive rule. Meanwhile, in times of crisis, the urgent need for swift and effective international aid is undeniable. At the same time, there is widespread concern that the military junta, which illegally seized power, may exploit humanitarian assistance for its own benefit. This has created a period of distress and uncertainty," she wrote.

She further stated that this moment requires a reaffirmation of humanitarian principles and the demonstration of resilience.

Currently, the NUG has allocated an initial fund of USD 1 million to support emergency rescue and medical aid efforts for earthquake victims across the country, including those in NUG-controlled areas.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. International and Domestic Humanitarian Organizations Denied Access to Disaster Areas Due to Strict Military Restrictions

(April 1)

International and domestic humanitarian organizations are being denied access to disaster-affected areas due to strict regulations imposed by military leader Min Aung Hlaing and the State Administration Council (SAC), according to Union Minister U Htein Lin Aung of the Ministry of Communications, Information, and Technology under the NUG.

"In response to the widespread devastation caused by the earthquake, the National Unity Government (NUG) declared a temporary suspension of offensive operations to facilitate humanitarian efforts. However, the military junta has continued airstrikes and bombings in NUG and Ethnic Resistance Organization (ERO)-controlled areas, targeting civilians. Simultaneously, international and domestic relief organizations have been blocked from reaching affected areas due to stringent military restrictions," he stated on social media.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck on the afternoon of March 28, centered around Sagaing, caused significant casualties and destruction in Sagaing, Mandalay, and Shan State, including Aung Ban and Inle. The SAC has since imposed strict controls over Sagaing City.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 5. Earthquake Relief Campaign Nears 10 Billion MMK in Donations

(April 1) The earthquake relief and humanitarian aid campaign is nearing its target of 10 billion MMK (1,000 million MMK). Thanks to the compassionate contributions of people from both inside and outside the country, the campaign—led by Spring Development Bank—now requires only 500 million MMK to reach its goal, according to an announcement made on the night of April 1.

The campaign has been described as a remarkable display of unity, providing much-needed support to those affected by the earthquake, particularly amid the inhumane obstruction and neglect by the military junta.

All funds raised will be promptly transferred to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management – NUG, which is actively assisting earthquake victims. Donations will continue to be accepted via SCF (Spring Development Bank) until April 11.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 6. Military Junta Exploiting Earthquake for Political Gain and International Recognition

(April 1) The military junta is using the earthquake as an opportunity for political gain and to seek international legitimacy and recognition, according to Mandalay protest leader Dr. Tay Zar San.

“In times like this, the fascist military is engaging in two major actions following the earthquake. The first is exploiting the disaster to serve their political interests, particularly in their quest for international recognition. The second is even more disturbing. Since minutes after the earthquake struck until now, there hasn’t been a single day when the junta refrained from launching airstrikes on civilians, firing at the people from paramotor aircraft, or conducting ground offensives,” he stated.

Reports indicate that the SAC forces continue to launch ground attacks and airstrikes in regions severely affected by the earthquake, including Sagaing, Mandalay, and Magway.
