May 3

The military junta has targeted civilian villages in the southeastern part of Myaing Township, Magway Region, conducting aerial bombardments from last night through to this morning, according to local sources.

We Love Myaing, a local monitoring group, reported that junta forces carried out airstrikes on villages in southeastern Myaing between approximately 8:30 a.m. and after 11:00 a.m. on May 3.

On the night of May 2 at around 11:30 p.m., a Y-12 transport aircraft from the junta’s Tada-U airbase reportedly conducted eight aerial attacks on an area in southeastern Myaing.

Today, on May 3:

Around 8:30 a.m., a fighter jet from Tada-U launched a strike.

At 8:55 a.m., a second jet from the Magway airbase carried out another strike.

At 9:00 a.m., a second jet from the Magway airbase conducted two additional airstrikes.

At 9:15 a.m., a ground-attack aircraft from Pakokku-based Infantry Battalion 101 carried out a strike.

At 9:25 a.m., another aircraft from the same unit conducted an additional strike.

Between 9:50 a.m. and slightly after 11:00 a.m., a Y-12 transport aircraft from Tada-U conducted twelve bombing runs over villages in southeastern Myaing, dropping approximately forty bombs within a ninety-minute window, according to We Love Myaing.

As of noon today, there is no confirmed information yet on civilian casualties or damage to homes caused by the ongoing airstrikes on the southeastern villages of Myaing Township.

In response to the relentless aerial assaults by the junta, local resistance forces have urged civilians in Myaing and neighboring Pakokku townships to stay alert to airstrike and troop movement warnings. They have also called for the elderly and children to be relocated in advance and for villagers to dig bomb shelters for protection.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Junta Air Force Using Internationally Banned Cluster Bombs

May 3

The junta's air force has increasingly used cluster munitions in airstrikes—types of weapons internationally prohibited—according to a May 3 statement from the Myanmar Institute for Peace and Security (MIPS).

Recent airstrikes in Kawkareik and Kyainseikgyi Townships of Karen State revealed remnants of MAB-26 C6 cluster bombs, manufactured by the junta. These munitions, weighing 26 pounds and containing ten 120mm submunitions, are designed to disperse widely and inflict broad-area damage.

According to the statement, these cluster bombs are produced at the junta's No. 21 Factory in Seikphyu, Magway Region, using Chinese technical assistance.

Since the military coup, cluster munitions have been documented in junta airstrikes across Chin State, Rakhine State, Kayah (Karenni) State, northern Shan State, Kachin State, Karen State, and Sagaing Region, as confirmed by the Myanmar Institute for Peace and Security.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 3. 14-Year-Old Girl Killed, Two Others Injured by Junta Drone Bombing in Mutraw District

May 3

A 14-year-old girl was killed and two others were injured in a drone bombing attack by junta forces in Mutraw (Hpapun) Township, Kawthoolei administrative area under the Karen National Union (KNU), according to a KNU statement.

The attack occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 29, when junta drones dropped bombs on Inkone Village. A 16-year-old girl and a 71-year-old woman were also injured in the blast.

In a separate incident on the evening of April 30, junta troops stationed in Nat Thang Kwin fired twenty-one 120mm mortar rounds. Of these:

Six landed near Sipo,

Eight west of Taung Su,

Six between Nu Klaw and Saw Baw Kone,

One exploded inside Anyarsu Village.

Furthermore, on the morning of May 1, junta troops in Nat Thang Kwin dropped 34 drone bombs in multiple locations:

Eight in Anyarsu Village,

Six near Sipo,

Six near Yan Myo Aung Village,

Four in Tamakhao Village,

Eight in Naung Kone Village, and

One in Yelay Karen Village.

The blast in Yelay Karen Village destroyed one house and killed a cow, local sources reported.

The KNU emphasized that junta forces are carrying out deliberate attacks on civilian villages and farmlands with heavy artillery, aircraft, and drones, even in the absence of armed clashes. These daily attacks have forced innocent civilians to flee their homes in search of safety.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. Civilian Killed, Another Injured in Renewed Junta Airstrike on Western Mogok

May 3

A civilian was killed and another injured when junta forces carried out another aerial bombardment targeting the western part of Mogok town, located in Military Region 2 under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), according to a TNLA official statement.

The airstrike occurred around 9:00 AM on May 3, when a junta fighter jet dropped a bomb on the western section of Kathe Ward, specifically targeting an area near the back of a local school. As a result, one resident was killed and another sustained injuries. The attack also damaged nearby homes, according to local sources.

The TNLA stated that this was the second aerial assault by the junta in recent days. On the night of May 2 at 11:45 PM, the junta had already bombed Mogok with two 250-pound bombs.

That earlier attack reportedly damaged the Dhamma Hall and six civilian homes in Aoutpyin Ward.

In addition, on April 30, the junta dropped two more 250-pound bombs between Thitsein Kone and Kyaukpote villages, also located in western Mogok, as documented by the Information and Public Relations Department of the PSLF/TNLA.

These escalated airstrikes came immediately after the collapse of peace negotiations between the TNLA and the Myanmar military, which were brokered by the Chinese government and held in Kunming, China, on April 28 and 29.

Following the failure of those talks, the junta launched successive aerial attacks on civilian-populated areas in Mogok during the night of May 2 and into the morning of May 3.

The TNLA further reported that the junta has been deliberately targeting areas under PSLF/TNLA administration — not only reinforcing its military presence but also conducting airstrikes in zones where no active clashes are occurring, suggesting an intentional strategy to terrorize and destabilize local communities.

In light of these developments, the TNLA urged civilians to remain constantly alert to military threats and to follow airstrike safety protocols in order to minimize casualties from further junta bombings.
