๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. UK Government Calls for Immediate Release of All Journalists Detained by Military

May 3

The UK Government has called for the immediate release of all journalists currently detained by Myanmar's military regime.
This statement was issued today, May 3, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.

According to the UK Government, press freedom in Myanmar has severely deteriorated, and the country now ranks as the second-highest jailer of journalists in the world.

Citing the 2024 World Press Freedom Index released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Myanmar ranks 171st out of 180 countries in terms of media freedom.

The ongoing internet restrictions in Myanmar have also hampered the collection of crucial humanitarian information and obstructed real-time responses to disasters such as earthquakes.
The UK emphasized that the media must be allowed to operate freely and independently.

The UK Government strongly condemned the military's oppression of the public's access to information and urged for the immediate release of all journalists currently in detention under the military regime.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Two Police Officers Disguised as Civilians Arrested for Espionage in Hakha

May 3

Two police officers disguised as civilians and allegedly engaged in espionage activities were arrested in Hakha, Chin State, according to a May 2 evening announcement by the Chinland Defense Force - Hakha (CDF-Hakha).

The two officers, affiliated with the military council, were reportedly apprehended on May 1 while pretending to be local civilians and conducting surveillance in Hakha.

Previously, on April 21, CDF-Hakha had also detained two other police officers accused of extorting and threatening innocent civilians at gunpoint.

CDF-Hakha stated that it would continue to take action against members of the military regime who are harming innocent civilians.

Furthermore, the group announced that it is willing to receive and protect regime personnel who no longer wish to serve under the junta, ensuring their safe passage to secure locations.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Junta Launches Airstrikes on Momeik Following Failed Talks with TNLA

May 3

Following an announcement by the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) that peace talks held with the military junta in Kunming, China, had failed after two days of meetings, the junta launched airstrikes on villages in eastern and western Momeik Township, according to local sources.

At around 11:47 PM on May 2, junta aircraft carried out bombing raids on Bahin Village in eastern Momeik and Utein Village in the west—areas under TNLA control.

While no casualties were reported, homes and structures, including a monastery in Utein Village, sustained significant damage, according to local residents and resistance forces on the ground.

The failed negotiations reportedly took place on April 28–29, involving junta representatives and a TNLA delegation led by Major General Tar Jot Jar, under Chinese mediation in Kunming.

According to the TNLA, the talks collapsed because it rejected a demand by the junta to withdraw its forces from areas it controls—Naungcho, Kyaukme, Hsipaw, Momeik, and Mogok—and to allow the junta’s reentry into Namhsan and Manton Townships, which are part of the Ta'ang self-administered region.

Due to the increased risk of further airstrikes by the junta, resistance forces have urged civilians living in TNLA-controlled areas to avoid crowded public spaces, especially religious buildings, hospitals, clinics, and schools, and to construct secure bomb shelters at their residences.
