๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. Fake Fundraising Appeals Using the Name of Ye-U Township People’s Defense Force Reported

August 20

The Ye-U Township People’s Defense Force (PDF) announced that attempts have been made to misuse its name to solicit donations for personal gain and to undermine the image of the revolution.

The group explained that when the military and Pyu Saw Htee militia units began offensives in northern Ye-U Township, false fundraising appeals started circulating under the name of the Ye-U Township PDF. This is the reason for issuing the current warning.

One such fraudulent letter claimed that the Ye-U PDF was in need of funds to carry out military operations. It stated that the group required 300,000 kyat for rations and medicine, with a deadline for payment set at 3 p.m. on August 19.

The letter further urged recipients to understand that financial contributions were “unavoidable due to circumstances,” and said the group would take responsibility for the donors’ security and related matters—asking, therefore, that news of the fundraising not be leaked.

It also instructed people to obtain the bank account details via Viber, and carried a threat: if donations were not made, the group would not take responsibility for the security of homes, buildings, and businesses.

The Ye-U Township PDF clarified that it does not engage in fundraising via Viber, Telegram, or other social media pages, and urged the public to remain cautious about such scams.
