UNDP Myanmar has announced that it has been distributing emergency household relief kits to families affected by the recent earthquake in the Inle region of Shan State over the past and current week.
According to the statement, these relief kits have also been successfully delivered to approximately 500,000 people across both urban and rural areas in various states and regions impacted by the earthquake.
Each kit contains essential household medical supplies, temporary shelter materials, personal hygiene products, dried food, and zinc containers. In addition, the kits include vital items such as solar lamps, power banks, and other emergency-use household essentials.

๐๐ 2. Approximately Two Million Additional People in Urgent Need of Humanitarian Assistance Following Earthquake, Says UNOCHA

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) reports that the number of people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance and protection in Myanmar has risen by an estimated two million as a result of the earthquake that struck on March 28.
Many affected individuals are still without access to clean drinking water, healthcare services, and adequate shelter, while damaged roads, destroyed infrastructure, and disrupted communication systems have further complicated the delivery of aid to affected communities.
Although humanitarian workers are actively collaborating with local first responders to carry out earthquake relief operations, UNOCHA noted in its Myanmar Earthquake Response Situation Report No. 2 that needs continue to exceed response capacity.

๐๐ 3. Revolutionary Thingyan and Interfaith Prayer Ceremony Held in the Netherlands

An interfaith prayer ceremony to honor those who lost their lives in the devastating Sagaing earthquake in Myanmar, as well as a fundraising event to support the revolution, were held on April 12 in the Netherlands.
The event was attended by Daw Nan Su Mone Aung, the National Unity Government's (NUG) representative to France, who delivered a message of encouragement.
According to reports, the event raised a total of approximately €15,000, including €2,400 specifically designated for earthquake relief. The earthquake donation funds will be transferred to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management under the National Unity Government, and donation records will be issued individually to each donor.
The Revolutionary Thingyan in the Netherlands was jointly organized by Dr. Ashin Sandarwara, Compassie Voor Myanmar, Burma Matters – NL Netherlands, and the Punya Kari Organization, among others, all of whom were acknowledged with heartfelt gratitude.

๐๐ 4. Myanmar-American Families in Austin Contribute USD 25,000 for Humanitarian Aid in Myanmar, Says Ko Htein Lin

Myanmar-American families based in Austin, United States, have collectively raised USD 25,000 to support humanitarian assistance efforts for the people of Myanmar, according to a statement by Ko Htein Lin.
"During my visit to Austin, I had the opportunity to speak with members of the Myanmar diaspora community about the urgent need for unrestricted emergency humanitarian aid and the worsening situation on the ground. I was also able to express my deep concern over the isolated detention of my mother, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who is being denied communication and medical treatment," Ko Htein Lin stated.
He added, "At this gathering, Myanmar-American families in Austin contributed a total of USD 25,000 toward humanitarian support for people in Myanmar. The funds will be used to assist those affected by the recent earthquake as well as people from regions impacted by the military regime’s attacks, particularly in recovery and reconstruction efforts."
Ko Htein Lin, the son of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, further remarked, “Throughout the journey, I will always remember and cherish the strength, compassion, and unity demonstrated by the Myanmar diaspora families I met in each city.”

๐๐ 5. All-Burma Federation of Student Unions Donates MMK 12 Million for Earthquake Relief Benefiting 1,000 Households

The All-Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) has announced the donation of essential relief supplies worth approximately MMK 12 million to assist around 1,000 households (estimated 4,000 to 5,000 individuals) affected by the recent earthquake. The beneficiaries are located in disaster-impacted regions including Sagaing, Mandalay, Tada-U, Taungoo, Nay Pyi Taw, Pyinmana, Yamethin, and Pyawbwe.
This relief effort was jointly organized by the All-Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU), Yangon University Students’ Union, the Students Without Borders Campaign, All Burma Women’s Union (ABWU), All Burma Young Poets’ Union (ABYPU), Sisters 2 Sisters, and the Myanmar Emergency Response Coordination Unit (MERCU), in collaboration with local civil society organizations.
The ABFSU expressed special gratitude, on behalf of the earthquake-affected people, to all individuals, groups, and donors who contributed financial support and logistical coordination to make this relief effort possible.

๐๐ 6. Karen National Education Committee (KNEC) Opens Applications for New Teachers for the 2025–2026 Academic Year

The Karen National Education Committee (KNEC), which has been actively conducting educational initiatives since 2022, has announced that it is now accepting applications for new teachers for the upcoming 2025–2026 academic year to meet staffing needs.
According to KNEC, independent and community-based schools interested in affiliating with the committee are invited to submit their applications.
Teachers and schools intending to apply must submit their applications to the KNEC Headquarters (B.C. Hill) by the deadline of May 8, as stated in the official announcement.
