๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. KNU: Military Council’s Ceasefire Declaration is Like “Hanging a Goat’s Head to Sell Dog Meat”

April 28

The Karen National Union (KNU) has declared that the military council’s ceasefire announcement is akin to "hanging a goat’s head to sell dog meat" — a deceptive and false proclamation.
According to the KNU, during the so-called unilateral ceasefire declared by the military junta from April 2 to April 22, 2025, within Kawkareik Administrative District, the junta forces committed over 110 human rights violations targeting civilians.
These violations included aerial bombardments, heavy artillery shelling, arson attacks on civilian homes and properties, the planting of landmines, and arbitrary arrests.
The KNU's central office stated that the military junta carried out 63 aerial attacks involving fighter jets, helicopters, and drones. As a result, 14 innocent civilians and 1 Karen ethnic person were killed, while 2 monks, 1 senior Karen figure, and 34 civilians were injured. Five monasteries and seven homes were also damaged.
Additionally, the junta conducted 43 heavy artillery bombardments, which caused injuries to 18 civilians and resulted in the deaths of 5 others. Sixteen homes were destroyed in these shellings.
The military council also set fire to civilian homes once, leading to the destruction of four houses and one Buddhist monastery.
Moreover, junta forces arbitrarily arrested two civilians, and landmines planted by the junta injured two more civilians.
