🚩🚩 1. Retired Lieutenant General Cho Htun Aung, a recipient of Min Aung Hlaing’s honorary title and lecturer at the National Defense College, shot dead
May 22
The Golden Valley Warriors group has announced that they successfully assassinated retired Lieutenant General Cho Htun Aung, who had been lecturing at the National Defense College and was a recipient of a prestigious honorary title personally conferred by Min Aung Hlaing.
According to the statement, the operation took place at around 9:20 AM today, at his residence in Ward 5 of Mayangone Township, Yangon Region.
Retired Lt. Gen. Cho Htun Aung was reportedly shot and killed by members of the Golden Valley Warriors urban resistance unit. He had received the “Wunna Kyaw Htin” honorary title in 2023 directly from Min Aung Hlaing and had been lecturing officers of the military junta at the National Defense College (NDC).
He was teaching two subjects at NDC—National Security and Counterterrorism, and International Relations. The National Defense College, located in Naypyidaw, is a premier military academy that offers advanced-level military education primarily to senior officers of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and above.
The Golden Valley Warriors stated that the assassination was carried out after an extended period of surveillance, intelligence gathering, and thorough verification.
Despite being officially retired with the rank of Major General / Lieutenant General, Cho Htun Aung had continued providing military instruction to the junta, and for that reason, he was designated as a legitimate military target and eliminated accordingly.
The statement also revealed that Cho Htun Aung previously served as Myanmar’s ambassador to Brunei and Cambodia, and upon returning to Myanmar, he took up a full-time role teaching junta officers at the National Defense College in Naypyidaw.
It is reported that Min Aung Hlaing heavily relies on advice from trusted former generals like Cho Htun Aung to design and implement his “People’s War” strategy and that Cho Htun Aung was among the top-level retired officers advising the junta at regional command levels.
The Golden Valley Warriors further stated that they are actively monitoring and collecting intelligence on key informants working for the junta and are also gathering information on military pilots involved in airstrikes. They encouraged the public to submit any relevant information to the Yangon urban guerrilla network.

🚩🚩 4. Nyaung-U People’s Defense Force Invites Junta Soldiers and Police to Defect and Become Soldiers of the People
May 22
The People’s Defense Force (PDF) of Nyaung-U Township has issued an open invitation to junta soldiers and police officers to defect and become “beloved soldiers of the people.”
In a public statement, the PDF extended this invitation to junta troops and police officers who are currently serving under duress due to arbitrary arrests or forced conscription, as well as those who no longer wish to serve under the brutal command of Min Aung Hlaing.
The PDF pledged a warm welcome in Pagan land (Bagan region) to all soldiers and police officers who wish to live peacefully and freely with their families. Those who bring their weapons with them will be rewarded appropriately.
Since the PDF has forces operating within Nyaung-U Township, the announcement highlighted that soldiers and police can defect by raising a white flag either during operations or amid ongoing battles. The PDF promised not only to ensure their safety but also to protect the lives of their families, and to provide food and shelter for them.
The statement reiterated that as “soldiers of the people,” they bear the responsibility of defending the public. It called on all junta-aligned soldiers and police to join hands with the people to expel Min Aung Hlaing and his associates—driven by their obsession with power—from the country.
