๐๐ 1. NUG Affirms Ongoing Commitment to Strengthen Press Freedom and Public Access to Information in Collaboration with Revolutionary Forces
May 3 — Radio NUG
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the National Unity Government (NUG) reaffirmed its unwavering stance on press freedom and media independence, stating its continued commitment to collaborate with all revolutionary forces to strengthen the rights of independent media to access and gather information and to enhance the public’s right to information.
The NUG underscored that, in alignment with its previously declared policy positions on freedom of the press and media independence, it will continue to work jointly with all revolutionary alliances to bolster media freedoms and ensure the broader public has access to accurate and timely information.
It emphasized that freedom of expression, the right to report, and press freedom play a vital role in the ongoing Spring Revolution—a historic movement aimed at dismantling the military dictatorship and achieving the federal democratic aspirations of the people. The statement further condemned the military junta for its daily assaults on truth and transparency, including censorship of the press, unlawful arrests and torture of journalists, and even extrajudicial killings, all aimed at suppressing factual reporting and silencing dissent.
According to the statement, since the military coup on February 1, 2021, at least seven journalists have been killed, and over 200 others have been arbitrarily arrested and detained. Of those, 40 remain in custody to this day. It was also highlighted that all journalists still operating inside Myanmar are subject to life-threatening risks and are increasingly being pressured to flee the country for their safety.
The NUG strongly denounced the military junta’s violent and unlawful arrests, torture, murder, threats, and censorship targeting media outlets and journalists. It reaffirmed its commitment to firmly oppose all actions that undermine press freedom and to defend the rights of journalists and independent media as part of the broader struggle for democracy.

๐๐ 3. Naypyidaw on the Brink of Collapse Due to Earthquake Damage and Military Pressure
May 3
Radio NUG
The military junta is facing severe military and administrative pressures, pushing Naypyidaw to the verge of collapse, according to an analysis by PDF Insight. The analysis concludes that the time is now ripe for ethnic resistance groups and People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) to intensify their operations.
As a result of the recent earthquake in Sagaing, several military and administrative buildings in Naypyidaw have suffered significant structural damage. The administration is reportedly in disarray, while PDF and revolutionary forces have been escalating military pressure in and around Naypyidaw. In April 2024, they were able to carry out drone strikes targeting the junta’s military headquarters and air force bases.
Nationwide, the junta has lost control over vast territories in Kachin, Chin, northern Shan, and Sagaing regions. Intense battles are also ongoing in Mandalay, Bago, and Ayeyarwady Regions. The earthquake has further disrupted the junta’s air force and logistical capabilities, weakening its administrative mechanisms even further.

May 3
Radio NUG
Due to the peak nesting and hatching period of wild birds between May and June, the Minetauk Township People's Administration has issued a regional order banning bird hunting to protect these valuable wildlife species.
Effective from May 1 to June 30, 2025, the use of air rifles, homemade guns, .22 caliber rifles, and slingshots for bird hunting has been strictly prohibited.
Wild bird species in Minetauk Township include several rare and endangered varieties, making them an important part of the region’s natural heritage. The public has been urged to cooperate in protecting these species. Authorities also noted that conservation of these bird populations could contribute to future eco-tourism income for local communities.
Failure to comply with the order will result in legal action under existing laws.
