Radio NUG
In Nyaung Lay Pin Township, Bago Region, a captured Pyu Saw Htee leader named Hlaing Min has confessed to participating in war crimes, including mass killings, in collaboration with the military junta.
A video of his confession was released on May 2 by the Southern Military Region, No. (27) Military Strategy Command, and No. (2) Regional Sub-Command.
According to Hlaing Min, from 2023 to February 2025, several battalions—namely Infantry Battalion (IB) 20, Light Infantry Battalions (LIB) 51 and 584, as well as IB 349, LIBs 350, 440, and IB 8—were involved in killing local civilians in Nyaung Lay Pin Township.
He stated that leading figures in these massacres included Major Nay Lin, Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Swar Lin, and Lieutenant Colonel Zaw Myo Htut from IB 20, as well as Lieutenant Colonel Chit Ko Win from LIB 59. Additionally, a senior officer from LIB 51 and a deputy battalion commander from IB 584 were said to have ordered the killing of civilians and the destruction of corpses.
According to Hlaing Min, each mass killing typically involved five to nine civilians at a time, executed by shooting, burning, or beheading.
Furthermore, he admitted that in every area they operated within Nyaung Lay Pin Township, they engaged in extorting civilians for personal gain, detaining people for ransom, sexually exploiting women for money, and conducting at least eight rounds of forced military recruitment, during which 38 men were conscripted.
“I have committed many offenses against the people,” said Hlaing Min.
“Now I deeply regret those actions. Because of this remorse, I am ready to bravely accept any punishment the people choose to impose.”
Hlaing Min and fellow Pyu members—Ma Gyi, Min Maw Oo, Kyaw Kyaw Oo, Thein Thei, and Hlaing Min’s wife Ma Ya Min—were captured by PDF forces while swimming near Kadat Chaung Dam, at the foot of Kyauk Htee Yoe Mountain, in Kyauk Hto Township, Mon State.
