1. The Acting President of the National Unity Government, H.E. Duwa Lashi La, expressed his deep hope that the successor to Pope Francis will be a passionate religious leader in the peace process in conflict-torn countries like Myanmar. Speaking on the passing of Pope Francis, the Acting President said, we feel deeply saddened, along with Catholics and Christians around the world, at the passing of His Holiness the Pope. Pope Francis was someone who consistently prayed and advocated for peace in our country. Moreover, he was the first Pope to visit Myanmar in over 500 years of Catholic history. We earnestly hope that the next Pope will also be a religious leader who is passionately engaged in the peace efforts of countries like ours that are still in conflict. The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw- CRPH and the National Unity Government -NUG have also issued official messages of condolences on the passing of Pope Francis.

2. The Union Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Mann Win Khaing Than, stated during a recent cabinet meeting that the terrorist military junta's escalating airstrikes are targeting civilians. The Union Prime Minister remarked that, while the NUG declared a humanitarian ceasefire in earthquake-affected areas, the terrorist military junta has increased its airstrikes on civilians in recent days, which is very discouraging. Their actions have surpassed what would be expected of a conventional enemy. Therefore, the Union Prime Minister emphasized the need for continued preparation and effective resource utilization. On April 18, the junta conducted an unprovoked airstrike, dropping two bombs on Leik Kya Village, Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region, targeting the Aung Myint Moh Motorcycle Sales Shop and Swe Myo Industrial Area. As a result of this attack, a total of 12 civilians, including 8 men, 3 women, and 1 child, were killed, and many others were injured.
