Acting President Duwa Lashi La reaffirmed the government’s readiness to support efforts for unity among the Chin people during the 1st Anniversary Celebration of the Chin Brotherhood held on December 30.
"Our government is always ready to assist and collaborate in the initiatives for Chin national unity," the Acting President stated at the event. "I also want to acknowledge the individuals and organizations working tirelessly for the unity of the Chin people. I wish for the swift success of these efforts," he added.
Additionally, the Acting President expressed admiration for the Chin Brotherhood’s remarkable display of military accomplishments in Chin State, which he described as a source of pride and amazement.

๐๐ 2. Federal Systems Dialogues Conclude with International IDEA’s Support

The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) announced on December 30 that a series of dialogues on the application of federal systems in federal countries have been successfully concluded with the support of International IDEA.
These weekly discussions, held via video conference from August to December 2024, were organized in collaboration with the CRPH, the Federal Affairs Committee, the International Relations Committee, and the NUCC Affairs Committee. The dialogues were led by domestic expert U Kyaw Swar and spanned 17 sessions.
The sessions explored federal constitutions in practice, the drafting of new union maps, the separation of powers, legislative systems, judicial systems, financial systems, public administration, and lessons from federal transitions in various countries. Participants examined these topics in detail with reference to specific nations.
Attendees included members of the CRPH, relevant committees, and representatives from state and regional legislatures across the country, who actively engaged in learning and discussions during the sessions.

๐๐ 3. NUG Representatives Discuss Re-establishment of Myanmar Parliamentary Group with South Korean MP

The Myanmar Representative Office to South Korea met with South Korean National Assembly member Lee Kang-il, a member of the National Policy Committee, on December 30 to discuss the re-establishment of the Myanmar Parliamentary Group.
During the meeting, the NUG representative office proposed re-establishing the parliamentary group, organizing parliamentary hearings, and enhancing collaboration between the NUG, the CRPH, and the South Korean National Assembly.
MP Lee, along with Secretary General Kwon Dae-hun, expressed interest in human rights, refugee issues, and labor matters. They discussed the current situation of Myanmar’s revolution and the conditions of Myanmar nationals residing in South Korea.
The meeting also focused on addressing visa challenges faced by pro-democracy Myanmar nationals in South Korea, supporting those unjustly detained, and finding ways to aid those suffering due to the ongoing conflict. MP Lee expressed his intent to assist in these areas, emphasizing his dedication to supporting Myanmar's pro-democracy movement.

๐๐ 4. Karenni State Consultative Council Sends Message for Karen New Year Festival

The Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC) extended its heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the Karen New Year Festival, which falls on December 30 (1st day of Pyatho, 2764 in the Karen calendar).
The KSCC acknowledged the foresight and dedication of Karen leaders dating back to 1983, which resulted in the preservation of significant national symbols such as Karen New Year Day, the national flag, anthem, literature, and language. These symbols have been proudly upheld and celebrated to this day.
The message also highlighted the Karen people’s long-standing participation in resistance movements, including anti-colonial struggles, anti-fascist revolts, and the fight against military dictatorship. Their enduring commitment to equality among all ethnic groups and the establishment of a genuine federal democracy in Myanmar remains steadfast.
The KSCC expressed its hope that the Karen people, alongside other ethnic groups, will continue striving hand in hand to build a future federal democratic union free from oppression, military rule, and authoritarianism.

๐๐ 5. Karen National New Year Celebrated Collectively in Demoso Township After 2764 Years

In Karenni State, residents of a village in the western part of Demoso Township collectively celebrated the Karen National New Year of the year 2764 on December 30. According to local news, the event was attended by local Karen communities as well as other ethnic groups in the region.
The Secretary General of the Karen New Year Celebration Committee, Sai Su, mentioned that due to security concerns, the Karen New Year celebration in Karenni State had not been held for four years since the military council seized power.
The celebration was reportedly attended by approximately 300 people, including members of ethnic communities in Karenni State, representatives of the Karenni Interim Coordination Council (IEC), religious organizations, and Muslim youth groups.
The ceremony included raising and honoring the Karen national flag, delivering speeches by invited dignitaries, reading out messages of goodwill, presenting gifts to the attendees, and organizing sports competitions. The event concluded with the lowering of the Karen national flag.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter passed away at the age of 100 on December 29. A Nobel Peace Prize laureate like Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Carter was awarded the prestigious prize in 2002.
Jimmy Carter was a strong advocate for democracy and human rights in Myanmar. He played a crucial role in pressuring for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s release from house arrest and amplifying the voices of Myanmar's pro-democracy movements on the global stage.
In 2007, Carter co-founded "The Elders," a group of influential global leaders advocating for democracy and human rights, alongside South African democracy icon and Nobel laureate Nelson Mandela. Through the Carter Center, he also monitored electoral fairness in Myanmar and around the world.
Serving as U.S. President from 1977 to 1981, Carter became a prominent figure post-presidency, recognized for his dedication to international peace and justice. His passing marks a profound loss, and sympathies are extended to the American people.

๐๐ 8. Mother and Daughter Killed in Meiktila Over Relationship Dispute; Suspects Arrested by Community

On the evening of December 29, around 7 PM, a tragic incident occurred in Meiktila’s Kya Taw Kone neighborhood, Wan Taw Pyi Toe Che area, Zone 8, where a mother and daughter were killed in their home by three young men.
According to reports, the incident stemmed from dissatisfaction over the daughter’s decision to cut ties with one of the attackers. The military council’s police records revealed that the victims, 53-year-old Daw Tin Mar Win and her 19-year-old daughter Ma Khaing Yin Thway, were fatally attacked by three suspects: 17-year-old Khant Zaw Hein from Thabutt Su village, Taungtha Township; 20-year-old Swan Pyi Paing from Sapyar San Ward, Tatkon City; and 22-year-old Htet Min Khant from Byainnang Ward, Tatkon City.
The suspects reportedly claimed that Swan Pyi Paing had been romantically involved with Ma Khaing Yin Thway for two months before their relationship ended. Dissatisfied, they went to her home, where Daw Tin Mar Win opened the door. A verbal altercation escalated, leading to the violent attack. Swan Pyi Paing stabbed Ma Khaing Yin Thway, while Khant Zaw Hein attacked Daw Tin Mar Win. Htet Min Khant assisted by restraining the victims.
Daw Tin Mar Win sustained seven stab wounds, including severe injuries to her neck, chest, and abdomen, while Ma Khaing Yin Thway suffered ten stab wounds to her chest, sides, back, and thighs. Both victims died on the spot in their living room.
The incident was reported by Radio NUG journalists Min Thi Han, Min Sitt Thway, and Khashel.
