๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. Five Political Prisoners Injured as Prison Authorities Open Fire and Assault Detainees in Pyay Prison

February 23

Prison authorities at Pyay Prison opened fire and assaulted political prisoners, resulting in injuries to five detainees, including contusions and head wounds.

On the morning of February 23, an inmate named Lin Htein, who was in charge of the prison's mess hall (kitchen), suddenly punched a political prisoner without any provocation or explanation. In response to this attack, over 100 political prisoners gathered in front of the main office (Maingyi) and peacefully appealed to the prison warden, U Kyaw Aung (Deputy Superintendent), demanding action against the perpetrator, Lin Htein.

Following this, two gunshots were fired from the central security post of the prison. Under the orders of a prison officer named Teza Win, two prison staff members—Ukkar Moe (Pa 2) and another—along with convicted criminal inmates assigned to the prison office, including one known as "Super Pho" and a clerk named Ngati, armed themselves with bamboo sticks, wooden clubs, and knives, and launched an attack on the political prisoners, accompanied by threats.

As a result of the violence, five political prisoners sustained injuries, including contusions, head wounds, and lacerations on their legs. The political detainees have since continued to demand an end to such unjust oppression and have called for legal action to be taken in accordance with the law, as stated in a press release by PPNM.
