๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. Statement from Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than on Governance and the Revolution

February 7, Radio NUG:
Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than emphasized, "The success of the ongoing revolution hinges on governance guided by principles and democratic standards." His remarks were cited on social media on February 7, based on his speech at the Union Parliament.

He elaborated that local governance during this revolutionary period is not just limited to bureaucratic affairs but involves building systems based on the rule of law rather than individual or group control. "As the National Unity Government (NUG), we are establishing governance regulations and structures. However, true governance under principles requires oversight by democratically elected representatives, in accordance with the will of the people," he noted.

"The revolutionary movement we are engaged in will only gain strength if governance is established on principles and democratic standards. This will also help alleviate the burdens imposed on the people by governance itself," the Prime Minister added.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. International Organizations Reject Myanmar Junta's Election

February 7, Radio NUG:
Three international organizations issued statements on February 6, urging the global community not to recognize the upcoming election organized by the military junta, as it fails to meet democratic standards. The organizations are the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), and Club de Madrid.

The statement highlighted the junta's ongoing violence, forced displacements, and suppression of political freedoms over the past four years. It noted that the regime continues to commit systematic human rights violations, impose draconian laws targeting opposition political parties, arrest political leaders and pro-democracy activists, and severely restrict media freedom.

The organizations stated that the bodies responsible for compiling voter and census lists under the junta are unreliable, making credible elections impossible under the current circumstances.

They further stressed that the junta's election lacks legitimacy and is merely an attempt to legitimize an illegal government. As a result, they called on the international community to refrain from providing technical, material, or political support for the junta’s election.

Additionally, the statement urged the protection of the results of the November 2020 election, the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2669, and support for Myanmar's return to the path of democracy.

The organizations warned that the sham election would not bring peace or stability to Myanmar but would instead deepen divisions and violence, worsening the crisis caused by authoritarian rule and military dictatorship.
