๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. NUG Ministry of Defense Reports 64 Defections to the People’s Embrace in a Single Month, Including One Major-Rank Officer

March 4

The National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Defense has reported that a total of 64 personnel, including a major-rank officer, have defected from the military junta and police force to the People’s Embrace during February 2025.

These defections were facilitated through connections with the People’s Defense Force (PDF) battalions and the Pa Ka Pha operating under the NUG Ministry of Defense and the People’s Embrace Implementation Central Committee.

Among the 64 defectors, 45 personnel arrived with their weapons. In accordance with the NUG Ministry of Defense’s policy, those who brought weapons were awarded financial compensation based on the value of their arms.

During February, a total of 44 firearms and various types of ammunition were collected from those who defected with weapons.

Due to the junta’s forced conscription order, many forcibly recruited personnel, as well as those who wish to stand with the people, are encouraged to seek refuge through the People’s Embrace program. The NUG Ministry of Defense has urged individuals seeking to defect to contact the People’s Embrace Telegram channel (@MyanmarPeople) or reach out to their nearest PDF, Pa Ka Pha units, or allied ethnic resistance organizations.

Intense clashes took place throughout February in Karenni State’s Moe Bye, as the military junta launched a major offensive to regain control of the town, according to the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF).

Skirmishes also occurred in Hpasawng, Bawlakhe, and Loikaw Townships, but the most severe fighting was concentrated in Moe Bye, where the junta’s forces attempted a full-scale assault to reclaim the area.

On February 5, Karenni resistance forces launched an attack on junta troops stationed at the Catholic Mission Church in Moe Bye, resulting in the deaths of seven junta soldiers and multiple injuries. Resistance forces also seized five firearms during the battle.

Throughout the operation, the junta carried out three airstrikes using fighter jets, conducted bomb drops from supply aircraft, deployed drone strikes, and launched heavy artillery shelling throughout the day.

During the month-long offensive, five KNDF fighters were killed in battle while courageously engaging the enemy. Meanwhile, junta forces continued indiscriminate aerial bombardments, drone strikes, and artillery shelling on civilian areas in Loikaw, Demoso, Phekhon, and Moe Bye Townships.

As a result of these attacks, five civilians, including a 10-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, two 17-year-old youths, and one other individual, were killed. An additional 11 civilians sustained injuries.

The military’s airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery bombardments caused widespread destruction in Moe Bye, with over 50 civilian homes, four schools, and four religious buildings burned or damaged.
