๐๐ 3. KNU Muthraw District warns of action against those participating in junta-organized elections
August 26
Radio NUG
The Karen National Union (KNU) – Muthraw District has issued a warning that anyone who participates in the elections to be organized by the illegitimate military-appointed Union Election Commission will face measures such as warnings, summons, detention, and banishment.
The statement stressed that the upcoming elections organized by the junta are not in line with a Federal Democratic Constitution and will not resolve Myanmar’s ongoing political crisis, nor will they bring about a stable and lasting peace.
Instead, the elections will serve only the interests of the military generals who unlawfully seized power and their allied political parties, providing no benefit whatsoever to ethnic nationalities or the broader public.
The KNU Muthraw District, Brigade 5, declared that since the election excludes all organizations and communities that should legitimately participate—including the general public—it is merely a mechanism designed by the junta to prolong military dictatorship. Thus, the election cannot and will not be recognized or accepted.
Accordingly, the people within Muthraw District, revolutionary armed organizations, CSOs, CBOs, and religious leaders have been warned not to support or cooperate with the junta’s election, either directly or indirectly.
The statement further outlined that anyone failing to comply will face one of three forms of action:
- Summoning for awareness and warning,
- Detention in appropriate circumstances,
- Banishment outside the area of KNU Muthraw District, Brigade 5.
