πŸ“ŒπŸ“Œ 1. Joint statement by State and Federal Unit Parliaments and Parliamentary Representative Committees calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint

September 11

State and Federal Unit Parliaments, together with Parliamentary Representative Committees, have issued a joint statement calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, including State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint, who were unjustly arrested and detained.

According to the statement released on September 11, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi—Chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD), Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Member of Parliament for Kawhmu Township, as well as the State Counselor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs—was unlawfully arrested and detained following the military junta’s illegal coup d’Γ©tat on February 1, 2021.

The statement further notes that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, now over 80 years old, is facing serious health concerns and life-threatening conditions. Information regarding her health has been conveyed by her son Ko Htein Lin (alias Kim Aris). This has caused great worry and anxiety among the entire public.

During her unjust detention, the junta has prevented Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from meeting with family members, legal representatives, international leaders, and diplomats. She has also been denied access to adequate medical treatment and healthcare, and her place of detention has been kept in secrecy. These circumstances have led to grave concerns for her very survival.

Therefore, the statement urgently appeals to domestic and international organizations, the United Nations and its bodies, ASEAN countries, and all allied nations to exert pressure and take strong measures to secure the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint.

September 11

KNU Brigade 3 (Nyaunglebin District) issued a statement today, September 11, warning against participation in the military junta’s unlawful election.

As Nyaunglebin District is under the administration of the Karen National Union (KNU), Brigade 3 stated that it will act in accordance with the instructions of KNU Headquarters and reaffirmed its commitment to the August 26 statement issued by the KNU Central Executive Committee.

Accordingly, people in the district—including the general public, social organizations, political parties, religious organizations, and individuals—are strongly warned not to take part in the junta’s one-sided, unlawful sham election.

Brigade 3 further declared that those who support or assist the military’s fraudulent election will be considered as accomplices granting the junta a license to kill.

The statement added that the district will closely monitor individuals and groups who attempt to support the junta’s election, and any violators will be dealt with in accordance with Kawthoolei law.

The KNU emphasized that the junta’s fraudulent election is illegitimate, untrustworthy, and serves only to strengthen military rule.
