December 30
The Arakan Army (AA) announced on December 29 that over 700 enemy forces were killed during the battle for Gwa Township, where more than 1,200 junta troops were stationed to defend the area.

The AA launched an offensive against two SAC battalions based in Gwa—Battalions 562 and 563—starting on December 15, 2024. On December 29, by 12:00 noon, the AA successfully captured both battalions in coordinated attacks, according to the statement.

Captured junta soldiers revealed that the defense was led by Colonel Than Soe Win, commander of Division 11, along with tactical commanders Colonel Myo Nyunt Oo and Colonel Kyaw Zin Htike. The SAC forces employed various defensive strategies, including the use of armored vehicles, aerial and naval bombardments, and reinforcements, but failed to withstand the two-week-long offensive.

By the end of the battle, Gwa Township became the southernmost territory in Arakan State to be captured by the Arakan Army in 2024.
