The Myanmar military and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) officially signed a ceasefire agreement on January 18, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Reuters reported that the clashes near the border between the two nations have ceased. Both parties held bilateral discussions in Kunming, a city in southwest China, where they expressed gratitude to Beijing for its efforts to promote peace, as stated by Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a regular press briefing on Monday.
“The stabilization of the situation in northern Myanmar serves the shared interests of Myanmar and all regional nations. It also enhances the security, stability, and development of the border areas between China and Myanmar,” Mao Ning said.
China has pledged to actively promote peace talks and provide continued support for the peace process in northern Myanmar, the spokesperson added.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 2. Homes Destroyed by Airstrikes and Shelling in Banmaw
The Banmaw Scout Team reported that four airstrikes targeted the vicinity of Shwe Kyi Nar Ward on the evening of January 19. Additionally, on the morning of January 20, artillery and small arms fire were directed at the areas surrounding Karin Kone, Pin Sin Kone, and Shwe Kyi Nar Ward, causing severe damage to homes due to fires.
The SAC (State Administration Council) military forces were reported to have stationed troops in strategic locations around Banmaw, including SAC's (21) strategic hill, the Nayoung Pin village monastery at Taung Lay Lone, the Galaxy KTV area on the access road to Banmaw, the Banmaw Microfinance Office area, Banmaw University, medical corps, supply units, and SAC's Battalion (47). These forces have been shelling and attacking within the town. Reports confirm that homes along Riverbank Road have indeed been destroyed by fire.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 3. Pregnant Woman Among Four Civilians Injured by SAC Shelling in Hpruso
In Hpruso Township, four civilians, including a pregnant woman, were injured as a result of indiscriminate artillery shelling by SAC forces. The incident occurred on January 18 at around 6 p.m. in the villages of Loipaw and Nam Paw Lon, located on the eastern bank of the Karenni region. Local security forces stated that homes were also damaged in the attack.
Similarly, on the morning of January 20, two additional artillery shells struck farmland where civilians were engaged in agricultural activities. The SAC artillery unit stationed in Hpruso continues targeting civilians with artillery fire. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and construct bomb shelters for protection.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 4. SAC Shelling Sets Fire to Oil Mill in Kyauk Maw Village, Hseni Township
On the evening of January 19 at approximately 8:50 p.m., artillery shells fired by the Northwest Command (Na Ma Kha) struck an oil mill in Kyauk Maw Village, Hseni Township, resulting in its destruction by fire. Residential property, including brick walls, also sustained damage, according to a report by Battalion 27’s Communications and Information Department.
It was reported that the SAC conducted seven artillery strikes from 8:30 p.m. on January 19, causing significant damage. Since January 4, the SAC has been carrying out frequent shelling targeting civilians, with seven civilian injuries reported in January 2025 alone.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 5. Two SAC Officials and Seven Soldiers Killed in Seikphyu, Along with Factory Damage
In Seikphyu Township, Magway Region, the SAC’s (21) arms production factory was attacked by the BWM Mission - 31, resulting in the deaths of two SAC officials and seven soldiers, according to a report from Brave Warrior Myanmar.
The January 18 attack on SAC's No. 21 Weapons Manufacturing Factory involved the use of short-range missiles. Alongside the fatalities, eight others were injured. Additionally, significant damage occurred to three factories, including Factory Nos. 106, 109, and 201.
A technical storage unit containing completed bomb components and a gunpowder mixing warehouse were also destroyed. One warehouse continued burning for an extended period before the fire could be extinguished.

The Eagle Brigade (Anyar Eagles) has announced that a drone attack was carried out on the police station in Lin Kataw, Myaing Township, Magway Region, using 16 bombs, including incendiary devices.
According to the report, the attack occurred at approximately 10:05 a.m. on January 19, targeting the Lin Kataw police station, located near the border between Pakokku and Myaing.
This operation was a joint effort involving the Eagle Brigade (Anyar Eagles), Eagle Fighters (Myaing), MPL, Dragon Red Aggar, Phoenix (Ye Zegyo), and Battalion-10 of the Pakokku District. The number of casualties on the side of the military council could not yet be confirmed.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 7. Battle on the Ahn-Padan Road in Ngaphe Township: Three Military Council Troops Killed
The Ahn-Padan Road in Ngaphe Township, Magway Region, was the site of a clash on January 19 between 15 defecting soldiers from Military Battalion 99 of the military council and two units of the Asho Chin Defense Force (ACDF). The battle took place between 4:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., according to an ACDF report.
In the skirmish, three soldiers from the military council were killed. The ACDF forces managed to seize three MA-1 rifles, along with ammunition and magazines. The ACDF confirmed that their fighters suffered no casualties and successfully retreated after the operation.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 8. Military Council Soldier from Sagaing Township Defects with Weapons
A soldier from Military Battalion 33, under the military council, stationed at Non Taw in Sagaing Township, defected on January 7 with his weapons and ammunition, according to a January 20 announcement from the Steel Force Unit of Monywa District Battalion 25.
The soldier, identified as Ko Chit Thu, defected with an MA-1 rifle, three magazines, and 100 rounds of ammunition. He has expressed his intention to continue fighting against the dictatorship as a member of the People’s Defense Force (PDF).
Ko Chit Thu reached out to his older brother in the Steel Force Unit to arrange his defection. He was extracted while on duty at Non Taw outpost, located on the route between Shwebo and Kyauk Myaung, during a temporary assignment due to poor road conditions.
Ko Chit Thu, a graduate of Military Training Program Batch-5, was reportedly coerced into joining the military. He has since pledged to continue serving in the PDF under Monywa District Battalion 25. For bringing weapons and ammunition during his defection, he will be awarded a reward of 5 million kyats.
The announcement also reiterated that any military personnel, police officers, or public servants working under the oppressive military council who wish to defect will be safely extracted regardless of location, time, or circumstances.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 9. Atrocities Committed by the Military Junta in Villages Across Bago, Magway, and Sagaing Regions
According to a January 20 report from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the military junta has been carrying out brutal operations in villages across Bago, Magway, and Sagaing Regions, as well as other areas. These operations include mass killings of civilians, abductions to be used as human shields, and the burning and destruction of homes, occurring nearly on a daily basis.
On January 16, the junta raided Seesonekon Village in Natogyi Township, Bago Region, and detained and killed more than ten civilians.
On January 18, military troops entered Schoolgone and Thanpyaochan villages in Myaing Township, Magway Region, and burned down over 30 homes.
Furthermore, in Bawmie Village, Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, where intense clashes have been ongoing between the junta forces and the Arakan Army (AA), the military carried out aerial bombardments on January 17. This resulted in the destruction of nearly all homes in the village, which had over 200 households.
