๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Former Political Prisoner Dr. Nay Win Passes Away This Morning

May 14

It has been reported that former political prisoner Dr. Nay Win passed away earlier this morning.

Dr. Nay Win was a participant in the historic 1988 pro-democracy uprising (commonly referred to as the '8888 Uprising') and was also the father of former All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) student leader Ma Phyo Phyo Aung.

In a tribute posted on social media, Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung wrote:

"There has been an outpouring of sorrow in recent days. Stories of his time as a teacher and political prisoner in Obo Prison, shared among fellow former political inmates, are nothing but deeply moving and admirable. Recently, former political prisoners began gathering again to organize support programs for one another.

If someone were to ask whether we’ve ever seen a person whose daily life and beliefs are fully aligned — we’d point to someone like him. A gentle and humble man in personality, yet unwavering and firm in conviction — that was Sayar (Teacher).

May Sayar rest in peace and freedom."

At the time of his passing, Dr. Nay Win was 66 years old.
