🚩🚩 1. Shan South (Karenni) Regional Military Command’s Strategy Unit 11 Holds Graduation Ceremony for Field Unit Commanders

The Ministry of Defense under the National Unity Government (NUG), together with the Shan South (Karenni) Regional Military Command’s Strategy Unit 11, held a graduation ceremony for field unit commanders on June 16 at an undisclosed location in Karenni State, according to reports.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the regional military command, including the operations officer, Strategy Unit 11 commander, battalion commanders, and representatives from allied organizations. The event featured flag hoisting, salutes, an oath of allegiance, military marches, speeches by commanding officers, and a military drill demonstration.

A total of 150 trainees from Battalions 1102, 1106, 1107, and 1109 under Strategy Unit 11 participated in the field unit commander training course.

🚩🚩 2. Deputy Battalion Commander from LIB-211 Killed by Sniper in Kyaukphyu After Relocation

Lieutenant Colonel Win Thant, the deputy commander of Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 211, who had recently been reassigned to Kyaukphyu Township in Rakhine State, was killed by a sniper from the Arakan Army (AA), according to reports.

He had been promoted from second-in-command status on May 26 and was transferred to Kyaukphyu. After dispatching a field report, he was killed by sniper fire on his return journey, allegedly by AA fighters.

According to CDM Major Zin Yaw, Win Thant had flown from Myitkyina to Yangon, then traveled by naval vessel to Kyaukphyu, arriving on June 9. He reportedly sent a field update upon arrival and was shot on the return leg.

Lieutenant Colonel Win Thant was from the 48th intake of the Defense Services Academy, and his wife is reported to be a deputy police captain at Myitkyina Airport.

Kyaukphyu Township, where intense clashes have been ongoing, has seen significant casualties and numerous defections among junta forces.

🚩🚩 3. One Civilian Injured as Junta Shells Buddhist Monastery in Taitpin Village, Shwebo Township

At approximately 3:11 p.m. on June 16, junta forces from the 42nd Light Infantry Battalion fired Howitzer heavy artillery at the Buddhist monastery in Taitpin Village, located in the western part of Shwebo Township, according to the Zeya Thway People’s Defense Force.

One artillery shell landed inside the monastery compound and exploded, injuring 16-year-old Hlaing Min Oo. The youth was taken to a medical facility by members of the Zeya Thway People’s Defense Force.

Residents of the village had already fled due to junta troop movements on June 14 and 15, but upon returning to the village on June 16, the attack occurred, according to reports.

🚩🚩 4. One Civilian Killed as Junta Bombs Buddhist Monastery in Zee Taw Village, Myaing Township

The junta air force bombed the Buddhist monastery in Zee Taw Village, located in the southern part of Myaing Township, Magway Region, killing one displaced civilian, according to a report by We Love Myaing.

At around 1:20 p.m. on June 16, a junta fighter jet from Meiktila Air Base conducted an airstrike on the monastery despite no ongoing clashes in the area at the time.

The bombing caused the collapse of a pagoda within the monastery compound (identified as the Hlaing Gu Pagoda). A displaced civilian in his 30s named Ma Thei Kyi, who was sheltering in the underground chamber of the pagoda, was killed.

In addition, three male and seven female internally displaced persons (IDPs) were injured, and several children reportedly suffered shock and trauma during the airstrike.

🚩🚩 5. Civilian killed due to junta’s violent attacks in Hkaleh Lwe Toe District

According to the Karen National Union (KNU), a civilian was killed as a result of artillery and drone attacks launched by the military junta within Kawkareik and Leiktho townships of Hkaleh Lwe Toe District, an administrative area under Kawthoolei.

On June 11, junta troops from LIB-264 based in Paingzaloke fired two 120 mm artillery shells toward the eastern side of Pha Ya Ngote Toe village, and on June 14, they launched another two shells at Nwar Yay Chaung village.

In the Nwar Yay Chaung shelling, Soe Thu, a 35-year-old villager, was killed on the spot, while Naw Myo Khin, aged 65, was injured by shrapnel.

Similarly, on June 6, junta troops from LIB-439 fired four 120 mm shells into Myapugyo village.

On June 8, LIB-439 launched one 120 mm shell into Inn Lay Ywar village, three Howitzer rounds at Oakshet Khin village and Ohnpinsu village, and eight artillery rounds between Ohnpinsu and Nga Nwa Sake villages from their base in Kone Chaungwa. Furthermore, they fired three rounds at the Ying Tike Kone village monastery, and carried out drone strikes on Ohnpinsu, Nga Nwa Sake, Oakshet Kone, and Anyarsu villages, launching a total of 32 bombs.

On June 9, junta troops based in Natthan Gwin fired two 120 mm shells into Yay Lae Bamar village and one shell into Yay Lae Kayin village, resulting in injuries to Asaw Htoo Thar, a 24-year-old civilian.

🚩🚩 6. Two primary school children injured in junta drone strike on monastery in La Ei village, west of Hpa-an

On the morning of June 16, the military junta launched a drone strike using kamikaze drones on a Buddhist monastery in La Ei village, located west of Hpa-an, despite the absence of any armed conflict in the area, according to the People's Security Force of Hpa-an Township.

As a result of the attack, two primary school students who were attending class at the monastery sustained injuries, and parts of the monastery premises were damaged.

🚩🚩 7. Deputy police officer defects in Salin Township

At 6 p.m. on June 15, a deputy police officer who had served for nearly two years as Deputy Township Police Chief in Salin Township, and who had recently been reassigned in early June 2025 to lead the outpost in Tanyawng, defected and joined the side of the people by contacting the Salin Pa Ka Pha (PDF), citing his unwillingness to continue serving under the military junta.

Salin-based resistance forces also called on other junta-aligned police and military personnel remaining in the township to join the people, defect, and participate in the revolution against the dictatorship.
