Radio NUG

According to military sources, over 70 junta troops were killed and nearly 60 wounded when combined forces of the Karen National Union (KNU), Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), Karen National Defence Organization (KNDO), and local PDFs ambushed junta columns advancing along the Kawkareik–Myawaddy section of the Asian Highway in Karen State.

The heaviest clashes occurred near Tatonkhu village on August 9 and 15, when junta forces launched large-scale assaults. Despite repeated offensives, including the use of Light Infantry Division 31, they were repeatedly repelled and forced to retreat by the resistance’s coordinated counterattacks. Nonetheless, junta forces reinforced and continued their offensive operations.

Reports confirm that the majority of those killed were newly recruited conscript soldiers, and a significant cache of weapons and ammunition was seized by the resistance.

Furthermore, on August 28, the junta reportedly sent a convoy of over 500 troops and more than 50 military vehicles toward the Asian Highway, including drone bombing units, engineering units, artillery units, and new conscript battalions, in an attempt to intensify ground offensives.
