The Ministry of Human Rights of the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that five-day training sessions on women and child protection were conducted in August for human rights officers based in Sagaing and Magway Regions.

The five-day course covered essential topics such as children’s rights, child protection and entitlements, gender-based violence, the “Six Grave Violations” against children, sexual violence against women, and conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). Trainers provided knowledge-sharing on fundamental rights of women and children, while also engaging in discussions about community-based protection frameworks.

Additionally, the course included detailed guidance on standardized complaint mechanisms for reporting violations.

Participants—human rights officers—also held group discussions and exchanged experiences about challenges encountered on the ground.

The training emphasized not only capacity building but also empowering participants to later serve as trainers in their own communities, enabling knowledge-sharing within their local areas. Some participants proposed further cascading of training at the grassroots level.

One participant commented:

“These training sessions organized by the Ministry significantly enhance our knowledge and understanding. The awareness and insights we gained will directly benefit the lives of women and children in our communities. I am very glad that this knowledge can be spread widely and contribute to strengthening local protection capacity.”
