๐๐ 1. A new bridge connecting Hsenni and Lashio expected to open within days
August 27
The Kokang news agency, operated by the Kokang MNDAA, reported on August 27 that construction of a new bridge linking Hsenni and Lashio has been completed and will be ready for use within the coming days.
The announcement stated that the temporary bridge located on the Lashio bypass road outside Hsenni Township had collapsed on the night of August 18 due to excessive traffic loads beyond its capacity, coupled with heavy rainfall. In response, the Kokang armed forces and the local administrative committee jointly began constructing a new bridge.
Because of the collapse, local residents who relied on the bridge for travel and transportation experienced severe difficulties, according to reports.
It is learned that, even before the collapse, the Hsenni Township Bridge Engineering Team, with the support of allied forces, had already selected a new site near the temporary bridge for the construction of a new structure. When the collapse occurred, the engineering team immediately commenced construction work.
From August 20 to 25, within just six days, the team successfully completed installation of the main steel frame of the new bridge. MNDAA troops also contributed labor to the construction, and the bridge has now reached its final stage of completion. Authorities in Special Region 1 estimate that vehicles will be able to start using the bridge within two days.
The new bridge is expected to have greater load-bearing capacity and durability than the old one, thereby providing more reliable and long-term benefits for local transportation needs in the future.
