๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. KNU Responds to Military Council’s Terrorist Label: “Like a Thief Shouting to Catch a Thief”

August 29

The Karen National Union (KNU) has dismissed the declaration made by the military council, led by coup leader Min Aung Hlaing, labeling KNU as a terrorist organization, stating that it is nothing more than “a thief shouting to catch a thief,” and therefore not worth paying attention to.

On the evening of August 28, the terrorist junta under Min Aung Hlaing declared the KNU as an unlawful association and terrorist organization. In response, KNU Central Executive Committee member and spokesperson Padoh Saw Taw Nee said the designation has no credibility.

Although the junta has labeled the KNU as a terrorist organization, military records show that throughout this August, the junta itself launched deliberate attacks in KNU-administered territories, targeting civilians—including Buddhist monks—resulting in casualties and deaths.

The KNU pointed out that it is, in fact, the junta under Min Aung Hlaing that is a terrorist entity, as evidenced by ongoing war crimes cases brought against them at international courts such as the ICJ, ICC, and in Argentina’s court.

The KNU has also recently reiterated that it will not recognize or accept any election organized by the junta, as such an election would lack legitimacy.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 2. Junta and Pyu Saw Htee Forces Burn Down Kyikyin Village for 4 Consecutive Days, Detain Over 40 Civilians, Execute at Least 8

August 29

According to the Kanbalu District Activist Network (Kanbalu District), about 200 junta soldiers together with Pyu Saw Htee militia invaded Kyikyin Village in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, and carried out arson attacks for four consecutive days, detaining more than 40 villagers and executing at least 8 men.

This military operation took place from August 23 to 26, beginning with an advance from Bu Kone Village into Kyikyin Village. The troops burned down civilian homes, detained over 40 people who had not fled, and executed no fewer than 8 of them.

On August 26, the troops again set fire to Kyikyin Village. They also looted 80 lakhs kyats (8 million kyats) from the abbot of Kyikyin Monastery, U Kaw Wida, and forcibly expelled him from the village.

Between August 16 and 28, in the southern part of Kanbalu Township, junta and Pyu Saw Htee forces conducted offensives along both the eastern and western sides of the strategic road. In just 13 days, over 500 civilian houses were destroyed by fire, and around 20 civilians were killed.

On August 27, the junta deployed an additional 200 Pyu Saw Htee militia from the northeast of Tanse Township to combine with 200 others in Kanbalu, gathering a force of nearly 400 troops near the Kanbalu–Khin-U junction. Resistance forces have warned civilians to be cautious when traveling to avoid being trapped in clashes.

The rebel group Yay Pyaok Kyar Battalion reported that the military is advancing near Kawkhlai Village in Ye Phyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, with five battalions.

About 10 villagers retrieving the bodies of the deceased were also detained by the military.

The attacks were reportedly carried out under the command of Colonel Soe Moe Kyaw (Khamra-409), Brigadier General Win Min Soe (Deputy Battalion Commander), Brigadier General An Bohn Kyaw, and Major Kyaw Moe Khine (Khla-ra-282).

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 6. Drone and Bomb Attacks on Military River Checkpoint in Mingyan Township May Cause Junta Casualties

August 29

According to river defense forces, drone and bomb attacks on the military’s river inspection checkpoint in Mingyan Township, Mandalay Region, may have caused casualties among the junta.

On August 23, 27, and 28, revolutionary forces launched 20 explosive drone attacks targeting the military river checkpoint at Seik Nyan water transport office.

Casualty and death counts among the junta remain under investigation.

Military boats navigating the Irrawaddy River routinely dock at the Seik Nyan office, where soldiers inspect vessels.

Because the junta continues military incursions in Mingyan Township, tension remains high between junta troops and allied revolutionary forces.
