๐๐ 1. Myanmar Ambassador Urges Greater International Support for Children Traumatized by the Junta’s Indiscriminate Bombings
October 14
Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has urged the international community to provide stronger support for Myanmar’s children who are suffering from trauma caused by the military junta’s indiscriminate airstrikes.
Speaking during an interactive dialogue on the theme “Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Child” held by the UN Committee for Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Affairs on October 13, the Ambassador emphasized the urgent need for greater international attention to the plight of Myanmar’s children.
He explained that since the unlawful military coup, the rights of Myanmar’s children have been systematically and brutally violated by the junta, with over 1,200 children killed by the junta’s forces.
He also highlighted that as the junta intensifies its aerial bombardments on civilian populations, Myanmar’s education sector is facing severe challenges. Many children are now forced to study in makeshift classrooms, such as displacement shelters and bomb bunkers, where they live in constant fear.
Furthermore, amid worsening food insecurity and growing urgent health needs, the Ambassador warned that the junta continues to commit serious breaches—not only of international law and humanitarian law but also of the Six Grave Violations Against Children recognized by the United Nations.
He therefore urged the international community to take stronger, coordinated action to stop the junta’s brutality, to support the National Unity Government (NUG) in its efforts to end military dictatorship once and for all, and to help build a Federal Democratic Union in Myanmar.
According to UNICEF, among the 22 million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance in Myanmar, 6.3 million are children.

๐๐ 2. Ambassador Warns Junta’s Sham Election Could Threaten Regional Peace and Stability
October 14
U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has warned that the military junta’s planned sham election could provoke widespread violence and instability, posing a serious threat to peace and stability across the entire region.
He made this statement during the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly’s Economic and Financial Committee, at a general discussion on Sustainable Development.
The Ambassador explained that the junta is systematically dismantling the rule of law while providing safe havens for criminals and border militias allied with the military, thereby increasing the prevalence of transnational crimes.
He added that since the illegal military coup, Myanmar has suffered significant regression in its developmental progress, widening the development gap between Myanmar and its regional neighbors. Such setbacks, he warned, could undermine the overall path toward sustainable development across the region.
The Ambassador also noted with concern that certain member states have been assisting the junta in preparing for its sham election, emphasizing that such actions only deepen the suffering of the Myanmar people.
He therefore called on the international community to unequivocally reject the junta’s fraudulent electoral plans and to support the Myanmar people’s determined struggle to end military dictatorship and establish a peaceful, stable, and sustainably developing Federal Democratic Union.

๐๐ 3. All Schools in Hakha Township Temporarily Closed Following Junta Airstrikes
October 14
The CDF–Hakha Central Council Education Department announced that all schools under its administration in Hakha Township have been temporarily closed since October 13, following airstrikes by the military junta that deliberately targeted educational facilities.
According to the statement, the decision came after the junta’s fighter jets bombed a school in Van Haa Village on October 13.
Local reports confirmed that the junta conducted two aerial attacks on the Van Haa Village school, killing two students—one aged nine and another aged twelve—and injuring several other students and teachers.
Earlier, on October 8, the junta had carried out similar airstrikes on schools in Wan Thuu Village and Htin Chaung Village in Mindat Township, resulting in the deaths of three students and one woman with disabilities, and injuring more than 20 others. Consequently, all civilian-run schools in Mindat Township were also forced to close temporarily starting October 10, according to local news outlets.
