๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. AA Rescues Defecting SAC Soldiers Amid Airstrikes
December 20
The Arakan Army (AA) released a video yesterday at noon, showing them rescuing defecting soldiers from the Western Regional Command Headquarters of the SAC (State Administration Council) in Ann Township, Rakhine State, amidst airstrikes and heavy artillery fire.
The soldiers defected while under SAC airstrikes and artillery bombardments. The 6-minute video is titled, "Scenes of Arakan Army rescuing defecting enemy troops from the Western Regional Command Headquarters (SAC) on December 18, 2024, amid artillery shelling and airstrikes."
The footage depicts SAC soldiers fleeing from their command center and being targeted by continuous air attacks. One of the defecting soldiers is heard shouting, "Did you defect because you don’t like your army?"
Additionally, one of the defectors, dressed in civilian attire, identified himself as a military medical officer, reportedly a "Major" in the SAC forces. The video also shows many defectors, including injured individuals and older soldiers.
The defectors disclosed severe shortages of drinking water, stating that lower-ranking soldiers hadn’t had access to clean water for nearly six days, while senior officers had access to drinking water.
The gripping footage showcases the AA rescuing defecting SAC soldiers amidst airstrikes without regard for their own safety. The video demonstrates their humanitarian efforts, abiding by international laws, to save defectors despite the challenging circumstances.
