🚩🚩 1. A Total of 88 Battles Between Junta Troops and Strategy 32 Battalions in 2024, Resulting in 413 Soldiers Killed

In 2024, the Southern Military Region of the People’s Defense Force (PDF), under the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG), reported that Strategy 32 battalions engaged in 88 battles against the junta troops.
The battles were fought by Cobra Battalion, Black Tiger Battalion, and Venom Battalion, which operate under Strategy 32. These battalions coordinated with revolutionary joint forces led by Bo Dabo, according to a statement released by the PDF Southern Military Region on January 12.
Throughout 2024, a total of 88 clashes occurred between the junta forces and the resistance forces. The resistance forces successfully captured three battalions, one strategic base, and 11 smaller outposts or camps from the junta.
During these battles, 413 junta soldiers were confirmed killed, while 314 sustained injuries. Additionally, the joint resistance forces seized a significant number of heavy weapons, small arms, and ammunition from the junta. Over the year, 23 junta soldiers defected to the resistance—17 of them with their weapons and six unarmed. These defectors were rewarded appropriately and provided with safety and security.
Moreover, 21 junta informants were captured during the battles and are currently being held under proper detention, the report said.
The report further noted that the junta conducted over 100 airstrikes and fired more than 6,374 rounds of heavy artillery during these engagements. On the resistance side, 40 comrades made the ultimate sacrifice, and 190 were injured in the line of duty.

🚩🚩 2. Son of KNU Township Judge Found Murdered and Disposed in a Well

The second son of Judge Saw Kae Do from Le Doso (Dawei) Township under the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 4 (Myeik-Dawei District) was found murdered and his body dumped in a well, local reports revealed.
Saw Knyaw Do Soe, 28, went missing on December 20 after leaving his home. Nearly 20 days later, on January 11, his remains were discovered in a well near Wakone Village in the Eastern Forest area.
Family members and close associates reported that his shoes, ID card, and motorcycle were found near the well. Upon further inspection, his body was discovered tied up with ropes, reduced to bones.
A local source mentioned that there was a checkpoint operated by the KTLA (Karenni Army) Sakaso Battalion near the site where the body was found. It was also noted that during Christmas on December 25, villagers in the nearby church noticed a foul smell coming from the well. Subsequently, on December 26, the well was sealed with earth.
This incident occurred during heightened tensions in the Eastern Forest region, as Saw Fa Gyo, a deputy battalion commander of KNU Brigade 4, was killed by KTLA forces, further escalating the conflict.
The funeral for Saw Knyaw Do Soe was held on January 11. He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old son.
In a related incident, in early October last year, three men were reportedly beheaded by KTLA troops while gathering forest produce in the Eastern Forest region, according to local reports.

🚩🚩 3. Three Junta Soldiers Killed in Battle Along Taungoo-Thandaung Road, Arms and Ammunition Seized

On January 10 at around 12:00 noon, a battle broke out on the Taungoo-Thandaung road near Six-Mile Point in Thandaunggyi Township. The clash occurred when the resistance forces from Division 2, Battalion 5, and joint revolutionary forces intercepted junta troops returning to Pyinmana Base from inspection duty.
Three junta soldiers were killed during the clash, and resistance forces seized three M3 rifles, nine magazines, 200 rounds of ammunition, military supplies, and destroyed one vehicle, as reported by ThawThiKho.

🚩🚩 4. Junta Informant Tun Naing Killed in Chauk Township

On January 11 at around 4:20 PM, Tun Naing, a junta informant from Salaykyun Village in Chauk Township, was shot and killed by revolutionary forces while investigating and reporting on resistance activities.
Chauk Revolution Force (CRF) issued a statement confirming the incident. They revealed that despite repeated warnings, Tun Naing continued collaborating with local junta officials to identify, detain, and suppress resistance forces and their supporters.
The operation was carried out jointly by CRF and the Kyaukpadaung Special Defense Force to eliminate the informant.

🚩🚩 5. Two Civilians Detained and Five Houses Burned After Drone Strike Hits Junta Forces

In Tanintharyi Region, Pulaw Township, two civilians were detained, and five houses were burned by junta forces following a drone strike that inflicted casualties on the troops, according to the Myeik District Battalion No. 1.
On January 11, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a convoy of approximately 120 junta troops entered Tapo Ten Household Village Tract in Pulaw Township. Myeik District Battalion No. 1’s drone unit responded with 20 bombs dropped on the convoy, reportedly injuring at least eight soldiers.
The damaged convoy retreated to Padazettawya Pagoda near the village around 2 p.m., taking two male civilians from Tapo Ten Household Village Tract with them. Additionally, while retreating, the troops set fire to five houses and over 50 acres of rubber plantations, which were later extinguished by members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF).

🚩🚩 6. Two Civilians Killed in Junta Bombing of Pa-O Villages in Hsihseng Township

In southern Shan State, junta airstrikes targeting Pa-O villages in Hsihseng Township killed two civilians and left one seriously injured, according to the PNLA (Pa-O National Liberation Army).
Without any clashes in the area, the junta forces reportedly carried out four consecutive airstrikes using jet fighters against Pa-O villages in Hsihseng Township.
On January 11, at around 3 p.m., a junta aircraft bombed Phiy Kyuat Village, hitting three women who were returning from farmland. Two women died on the spot due to the bomb blast, and the remaining woman suffered severe injuries.
Earlier, on December 31, the junta also conducted airstrikes on the headquarters of the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) without any preceding clashes.

🚩🚩 7. Junta Bombing Near La Ei Village in Hpruso Township Damages a House

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on January 12, the junta dropped four bombs near La Ei Village in Hpruso Township, on the southern Shan-Karenni border. Among them was a 500-pound bomb, which caused minor damage to one house, according to KPV News.
Locals working nearby—digging ditches and laying bricks—escaped without injuries by fleeing as the aircraft approached.
Two other bombs landed near the football field in Hant Buu Village, close to La Ei Village, but no injuries were reported.
The report also noted that junta airstrikes targeting villages and displacement camps near La Ei Village have occurred at least seven times so far.

🚩🚩 8. Two Soldiers from Weekly Military Training Batch No. 5 Defect to Dauna Battalion with Weapons

Two soldiers stationed with Light Infantry Battalion 599 in Bote Pyin Township, Tanintharyi Region, defected with weapons to the Dauna Battalion on January 11, according to the battalion's announcement.
These soldiers had undergone training in Batch No. 5 at the Advanced Military Training School No. 12 under the Myanmar Armed Forces (Tatmadaw). They brought along one MA-3 rifle, one MA-1 rifle, six magazines, 175 rounds of ammunition, and a hand grenade.
Photos released by Dauna Battalion showed the defecting soldiers receiving financial support.
Since the military coup, at least 20 junta soldiers, including two officers ranked captain, have defected to the Dauna Battalion.
The statement also encouraged military personnel forcibly recruited into the junta forces, as well as those wishing to stand with the people, to contact resistance forces to defect.

🚩🚩 9. Graduation Ceremony Held for Allied Forces in PLA Zone 1

In Zone 1, a graduation ceremony for allied forces' basic military training course was held in January, according to the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
The training included basic military and political education provided by the PLA. Attendees included members of the PLA, People's Defense Forces (PDF), and local defense forces.
The ceremony was attended by local civilians, PLA personnel, and members of allied forces. The graduates were warmly welcomed and honored by the community.
