๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. "Our group's hold on power and who we will serve as subordinates is determined solely by the military group's stance," says Defense Minister U Yee Mon.

January 22

Defense Minister U Yee Mon stated via social media on January 22, "Our group's hold on power and the choice of who we might serve as subordinates is solely determined by the military group's stance."

He elaborated further:
"It is profoundly heartbreaking to think about another country intervening and influencing the internal affairs of our Union. Our group's hold on power and who we will serve as subordinates is entirely dependent on the military group's stance. Our country is one that seems to only achieve peace in the absence of the military group," he wrote.

The oppressive military group not only utilizes Russian military weapons but also maintains relationships with China for their own interests.

Thirteen soldiers from the junta’s side were killed, according to an announcement by Battalion 1 of Thayawady District on January 22.

A military convoy of approximately 70 soldiers entered Sisonkone village from the east of Nattalin Township on January 16, killing three local residents. On January 17, resistance fighters used landmines to target a military vehicle carrying three soldiers near Sisonkone village, killing two. That same morning, snipers targeted junta troops stationed at the village school, killing two more soldiers.

On January 17, at around 4 PM, junta forces and Pyu Saw Htee militia burned down five houses in Banbwekone village, forcing the entire village to flee. That night, at around 10:20 PM, resistance groups including Battalion 3801's subdivisions, such as Phoenix DF and Era Nyi Naung, attacked junta forces stationed in Banbwekone village. The half-hour skirmish resulted in four junta soldiers killed and many wounded, while one PDF fighter sustained minor injuries.

On the morning of January 21, at around 6 AM, combined PDF forces launched another attack on junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee militia stationed in Banbwekone village. The junta forces, unable to resist, retreated toward Pyinbon village. Resistance forces cleared the area following the retreat.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 5. A Female Civilian Killed and Seven Injured in an Airstrike on a Fire Station in Kyaikdon Town, Controlled by the KNU

January 22

An airstrike by the SAC (State Administration Council) on a fire station in Kyaikdon Town, Karen State, which is under the control of the Karen National Union (KNU), at around 7:30 AM on January 22 resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to seven others, according to military sources and local reports.

The airstrike severely damaged almost the entire fire station building located in Ward 5 of Kyaikdon Town. A 50-year-old woman near the site was struck by debris from the bombing and died, according to a report by the local news outlet KIC, citing local residents.

Residents speculate that the SAC launched the airstrike after learning that the fire station had been temporarily used as a shelter by joint revolutionary forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).

This incident was also reported by CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) Major Zin Yaw through his social media platform, where he stated:
"This morning, the central fire station in Kyaikdon Town was attacked by airstrikes. No fewer than seven people were injured. Kyaikdon is a town that has been isolated within enemy control, and it raises questions about whether the SAC might target the southern region next if the northern region becomes a no-fly zone. This follows a meeting between Deputy Commander Soe Win and senior Thai military officials, suggesting heightened caution."

Although Kyaikdon Town has remained peaceful and stable as an SAC-free territory, local residents have expressed ongoing concern over potential airstrikes, as the SAC has been known to bomb territories it has lost control of.

In March 2024, during the battle for Kyaikdon, KNLA and allied revolutionary forces successfully captured a strategic military hill post from the SAC. This led to 66 SAC personnel, including a key commander, surrendering. Since then, Kyaikdon has been under KNU control and declared an SAC-free zone.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 6. Soldier from LIB-261 in Loikaw Defects to KNDF with Weapons and Ammunition

January 22

A soldier from Light Infantry Battalion 261 (LIB-261), based in Loikaw, Karenni State, defected to the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF) with weapons and ammunition, according to a KNDF announcement made on January 22.

The soldier reportedly defected during a frontline operation on January 20, carrying his weapon and supplies. He had been forcibly recruited as a People’s Militia soldier under the SAC and was serving against his will, the announcement added.

The defector brought with him one MA-11 rifle, three magazines, two grenades, and other ammunition, according to the KNDF statement.

The KNDF Central Command encouraged SAC soldiers to lay down their arms and defect to the people’s side, emphasizing that continuing to serve an oppressive regime would only lead to defeat. It called on SAC soldiers to choose a new path where they could live with dignity by defecting before it’s too late.
