๐๐ 1. Terrorist Military Junta Orchestrates Fake Peace Process While Committing Real Atrocities
June 28
Radio NUG
Under the banner of “Peace Forum 2025,” the terrorist military junta organized an event in Nay Pyi Taw from June 25 to 27. The forum featured participation from some organizations, political parties, and individuals that neither possess public support nor demonstrate empathy or solidarity with the suffering population. These participants, aligned with the junta, discussed a wide range of topics under the guise of a so-called “peace process,” including orchestrating a sham election that the people have clearly rejected and that could never bring genuine justice.
National Unity Government’s Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann stated that while the junta conducted this staged peace forum, it continued to engage in daily acts of brutality. Since the beginning of its illegitimate seizure of power, the terrorist military has killed thousands of people unlawfully—systematically murdering citizens across cities and regions, cracking down on anti-junta protesters, arbitrarily arresting and imprisoning the public, torching entire villages, and committing mass killings.
Furthermore, after enforcing an illegitimate military conscription law, the junta has been sending large numbers of youth and young adults to the frontlines, forcing them to fight and die in defense of its illegitimate rule.
The military is also relentlessly bombing civilian infrastructure with airstrikes—including homes, schools, hospitals, and public spaces—resulting in widespread death and destruction. Countless children have not only lost access to education but also the right to life itself under the military’s terror. People across the country are enduring the daily consequences of the junta’s cruel and inhumane violence.
While the junta promotes its “peace process” as a faรงade, the atrocities it perpetrates are undeniably real. The only path to genuine peace, Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann emphasized, is to dismantle the military dictatorship, which is the root cause of these horrific acts.
He further urged both the people of Myanmar and the international community to resolutely reject the junta’s sham elections, fake peace initiatives, and the individuals and entities complicit in such deceptive schemes. He called for continued resistance and unwavering opposition to all manifestations of the military dictatorship.

๐๐ 2. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Detained in Secret Military Facility 22.5 km from Naypyitaw Prison; MPW Reveals Ongoing Psychological Torture and Identifies Key Perpetrators
June 28
Radio NUG
According to a report by the organization Myanmar Political Prisoners Watch (MPW), State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is being unlawfully detained under tight security at a secret military location—the headquarters of a special operations unit—located approximately 22.5 kilometers from Naypyitaw Prison, rather than at the prison itself.
She was covertly transferred in April 2024, allegedly due to heat-related concerns during the summer. Since then, she has been held at Military Command Center 6 (COSC 6), near junta chief Min Aung Hlaing’s official residence. The site is reportedly overseen by a high-ranking military officer with the rank of Lieutenant General, according to MPW.
MPW also reports that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is suffering from multiple health issues, including dental problems, heart disease, and age-related conditions. However, she is being denied proper medical care, receiving only limited treatment from doctors and medical personnel approved by the junta.
Additionally, she has been completely barred from meeting with family members or receiving prison visits, a basic right for detainees under Myanmar prison law. MPW describes this as a deliberate form of psychological torture by the military junta.
While all prisoners are legally entitled to family visitation rights, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been singled out as the sole detainee denied this right, a clear violation of her fundamental freedoms.
Since the military coup on February 1, 2021, the junta has sentenced Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to a total of 33 years in prison on politically motivated and illegitimate charges, including:
- Undermining state dignity
- Violating the telecommunications law
- Corruption
- Leaking state secrets
- Breaching electoral regulations
Although some of the charges were nominally dropped in August 2023, she continues to serve a 27-year prison sentence. The verdicts were handed down by regime-aligned judges including U Maung Maung Lwin, U Ye Lwin, U Myint San, and Daw Khin Thein Wai, according to MPW.
MPW also released a list of key individuals responsible for her unlawful detention and psychological mistreatment, including:
- Min Aung Hlaing – Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
- Soe Win – Deputy Commander-in-Chief
- Former Home Affairs Ministers Soe Htut and Ya Pyae
- Current Home Affairs Minister Tun Tun Naung
- COSC 6 commanders: Lt-Gen Than Hlaing, Than Tun Oo, Teza Kyaw, and Phone Myat
- Former Director-General of the Prisons Department Zaw Win, and current Director-General Myoswe
- Naypyitaw Prison authorities: Warden U Thein Zaw Maung, Deputy Warden U Kyaw Thura, Chief Officer U Aung Than Myint, Deputy Inspector Kyaw Min Htike, Chief Officer Thingi Myint, and Deputy Inspector May Thu Aung
- Numerous other officials complicit in carrying out the junta’s orders.
In light of this situation, MPW makes the following urgent appeals to international organizations and world leaders:
- Immediately demand the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners, through a coordinated international call by global leaders.
- Apply diplomatic pressure and travel restrictions on the military regime in Myanmar, especially on senior military leaders.
- Demand immediate and unrestricted access for independent human rights bodies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to visit Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
- Insist on full restoration of family visitation rights for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in accordance with the basic rights of all prisoners, and pressure the junta to comply.
MPW states these appeals must be taken seriously and acted upon urgently to hold the military accountable for the real-time, systematic violations of human rights against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other political detainees.

๐๐ 3. UN Special Rapporteur: International Cooperation Has Successfully Curtailed Weapons Flow to Myanmar Junta
June 28
Radio NUG
UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, Mr. Tom Andrews, stated that nearly one-third of Myanmar’s population is facing food insecurity, and approximately 21.9 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.
“Nearly 1.5 million Myanmar refugees are now living in foreign countries. Inside Myanmar, close to a third of the population faces food insecurity, and 21.9 million people urgently require humanitarian aid,” said Mr. Andrews.
He added that more than 6,800 people have died since the military seized power in the February 2021 coup.
Mr. Andrews highlighted that the Bangkok Bank in Thailand ceased financial dealings with the Myanmar junta’s Myanmar Economic Bank (MEB), which contributed to reducing arms flows into the country. As a result, one-third of weapons that would have been delivered to the junta via international financial networks have been successfully blocked.
He further noted that 90% of those weapons blockades were executed through efforts based in Singapore, underscoring the country’s critical role in cutting off junta arms supplies.
These remarks were made during the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on June 25.
Meanwhile, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tรผrk proposed that the Council intensify engagement with the National Unity Government (NUG), ethnic armed organizations, pro-democracy activists, and civil society groups.
The High Commissioner also urged the international community not to turn its back on the people of Myanmar but instead to provide concerted humanitarian assistance.
He further called on the Myanmar military to immediately halt its acts of violence and to permit the safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid.

๐๐ 4. Belarus Sold Myanmar Junta a Customized Air Defense Command System, Trains Military Technicians
June 28
Radio NUG
According to Justice For Myanmar (JFM), the Belarusian government has sold a custom-designed air defense command system to the Myanmar military junta and is training Myanmar military personnel at Belarusian universities.
The air defense system was sold through the Belarusian state-owned company Belspetsvneshtechnika (BSVT) and includes the “Horizon” automatic control system, which can detect and track aerial targets—such as drones used by resistance forces—along with the Vostok radar, a three-dimensional surveillance system.
JFM revealed that leaked documents between Myanmar’s Air Defense Headquarters and Belarusian authorities confirm the transfer of advanced military technologies, including:
- MADOC: Myanmar’s Air Defense Operational Command system
- Three-dimensional radar systems
- Ground-based missile systems
Furthermore, Myanmar military weapons technicians have been enrolled at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR), where they are conducting research and receiving specialized training in radio-electronic engineering for air defense systems.
JFM spokesperson Ma Ratana Maung stated:
“Belarus is the only country that voted against the 2021 United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for the prevention of arms flows into Myanmar. Since then, it has deepened its support for a regime committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Myanmar people.”
JFM has called for immediate sanctions against the Belarusian government and its universities for their role in aiding and abetting the junta’s military crimes and human rights violations.
Additionally, JFM urged the international community to:
- Completely block all shipments to Myanmar that transit through Belarus
- Impose urgent sanctions on arms dealers such as Dynasty Group and other enablers of illicit military-industrial activities and unethical bilateral trade between the two nations.

๐๐ 5. Junta Bans Seafarer Jobs for Citizens Aged Over 25 Amid Surge in Draft Evaders Using Maritime Employment to Flee the Country
June 28
Radio NUG
In response to the growing number of individuals seeking maritime employment abroad as a means to evade compulsory military service, Myanmar’s military junta has issued a directive banning those over the age of 25 from taking up seafarer jobs, according to an announcement from the junta-controlled Directorate of Marine Administration (DMA).
The order, set to take effect on July 1, prohibits anyone above 25 years old from applying for seafarer employment. Furthermore, new applicants must be under 25 years of age and are now required to score at least Band 5 in all components—writing, reading, speaking, and listening—of the IELTS Four Skills English proficiency test, as stipulated in the newly issued guidelines.
The junta’s clampdown is seen as a direct response to the rising trend of Myanmar youths, particularly those aged 18 to 35, using seafaring jobs as an avenue to exit the country and avoid military conscription. Upon reaching Europe or other developed countries, many reportedly jump ship and flee, prompting the junta’s tightening of restrictions.
As of now, Myanmar has a registered seafarer population of 86,219, with 69,100 actively serving onboard vessels and another 17,119 awaiting registration. The number of new applicants has reportedly been increasing rapidly by the tens of thousands on a near-daily basis, according to data from the Directorate of Marine Administration.
This report was compiled and sent by Khur Shel, a Radio NUG correspondent.
