The Ayeyarwady Region is expected to become a key battlefield in the ongoing resistance during 2025, according to the National Unity Government (NUG) Prime Minister, Mahn Win Khaing Than.
During the opening ceremony of the “Homecoming Wave Ayeyar Campaign” held on January 21, the NUG Prime Minister made this statement, emphasizing the strategic importance of the region in the context of nationwide military confrontations.
As the revolution enters its fourth year, the Prime Minister remarked that resistance efforts have become unstoppable. He credited this to the unwavering foundation laid by ethnic revolutionary groups and the resolute determination of the younger generation. With these factors, Ayeyarwady Region is set to play a pivotal role in the fight against the military dictatorship in 2025.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the sacrifices of the people of Ayeyarwady Region, who endured criticism and attacks throughout the revolution without faltering or retreating from their responsibilities. He called on the public to actively participate in the “Homecoming Wave Ayeyar Campaign.”
Currently, resistance forces, including those led by the Arakan Army (AA), are intensifying attacks on military council bases in Ayeyarwady, Bago, and Magway regions. Fighting has reportedly reached areas near Shwethaungyan, close to Chaungtha Beach, and near Yekyi Township in Ayeyarwady Region.

Junta leader Min Aung Hlaing has been accused of misusing disaster relief funds for military expenditures, according to U Aung Myo Min, the NUG Minister of Human Rights.
In a January 21 social media post, U Aung Myo Min criticized Min Aung Hlaing's claims of aiding displaced persons under disaster relief laws as laughable. He further alleged that the junta leader uses the pretext of disaster relief to divert funds toward military operations.
As of the end of 2024, more than 3.5 million people have been internally displaced due to military violence, marking a severe humanitarian crisis caused by the junta's actions.

Singer Saung Oo Hlaing announced on January 22 that the proceeds from his three-stage tour in Japan, amounting to over $100,000, will be donated to support ethnic communities affected by the ongoing conflict.
“It is time to extend compassion and assist. Humanitarian aid distribution will commence soon,” the singer stated. The funds will be allocated proportionally to support displaced individuals from Rakhine, Kachin, Chin, Karenni, Karen, Bamar, and other ethnic groups.
The singer further emphasized that the funds will be directly delivered to those in need without any deductions, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to provide meaningful assistance.
