๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. NUG Urges ASEAN Not to Overlook Military Council's Atrocities Against the People of Myanmar

April 29
Radio NUG

On April 29, U Kyaw Zaw, spokesperson for the NUG President’s Office, called on ASEAN not to ignore the military council’s brutal acts of violence against the people of Myanmar.

His remarks were made during the "Press Briefing to the People and the International Community – 9/2025."

“It is critical for ASEAN not to turn a blind eye to the military council’s ongoing atrocities. Overlooking these violent acts would severely undermine any meaningful effort toward building lasting peace and stability in Myanmar. It is now clear that the military junta is not the solution to Myanmar’s crisis.”

He also referenced the official dialogue held on April 18, 2025, between the Prime Minister of Malaysia (current ASEAN Chair) and the NUG Prime Minister, noting it as the first official contact between ASEAN and the NUG in the four years since the revolution began. The NUG welcomed the engagement.

Furthermore, he highlighted the junta’s obstruction of humanitarian aid efforts and its harassment of both domestic and international organizations. He condemned the junta's attempts to exploit natural disasters for profit and called upon the international, regional, and neighboring countries to closely monitor these activities.

The NUG reaffirmed its appeal to ASEAN and the broader international community to adopt more effective measures to help resolve Myanmar’s political crisis.
