January 9

Three junta soldiers were killed, and several others injured, when remote-controlled mines planted by resistance forces detonated after the soldiers confiscated the mines and transported them back to their camp on the Chaung-U-Myinmu road in Sagaing Region.

According to reports from Battalion 12, Subdivision 3 of the Lightning Strike Unit, the incident occurred on January 7. Junta soldiers clearing mines in the area had stopped two civilian vehicles, forcing the passengers to help locate and remove the mines. As the soldiers began unloading the mines, resistance fighters remotely detonated them, killing three soldiers and injuring seven others. A civilian delivering firewood and sand to the military checkpoint was also injured in the explosion, sustaining wounds to the chest and head.

The junta soldiers had reportedly confiscated a total of 30 mines, seven battery containers, and one remote-controlled mine from the area.

The attack was jointly conducted by Battalion 12, Subdivision 3 of the Lightning Strike Unit, Eleven People’s Defense Force, Battalion 15, and the Nway Oo Brothers Column.

Resistance forces urged civilians to avoid close proximity to junta personnel, warning of ongoing attacks targeting junta forces in various locations.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 4. Village Administrator in Paungde Killed for Recruiting Soldiers Despite Warnings

January 9

The village administrator of Myohla Model Village, Byukone Village Tract, Paungde Township, Bago Region, U Aung Naing Oo, was killed by shooting. This action was taken because he disregarded warnings to step down from his position and continued recruiting new soldiers, according to Battalion 3601 of the People’s Defense Force (PPDF), which released the statement on January 8.

On January 7, at around 11:00 AM, members of Company 3 under Battalion 3601 of the PPDF approached U Aung Naing Oo in Myohla Model Village and shot him. He sustained injuries and was rushed to Pyay General Hospital via ambulance, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.

It was reported that U Aung Naing Oo had been repeatedly contacted via phone—more than three times—and warned to step down from his role as village administrator and cease collaboration with the military junta. However, he refused and continued recruiting individuals for military service. Additionally, he allegedly collected recruitment fees ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 MMK per month from villagers, channeling these funds to the military. These actions led to his elimination, according to the PPDF statement.

The PPDF clarified that its members are actively targeting military entities, including soldiers, police officers, officials of the General Administration Department, village administrators, and ward administrators. Therefore, the statement warned individuals in such positions to resign promptly and join the people.

On January 7 alone, a total of three individuals—one village administrator and a couple who served as ward administrators—were killed in Paungde Township.
