Radio NUG, January 9
The BPLA (Burma People’s Liberation Army), a revolutionary force in Myanmar’s Spring Revolution, has been organizing a campaign to collect 2,000 bags of rice. In response, Spring Revolution families from the San Francisco Bay Area have collectively donated 200 bags of rice within a matter of days, according to reports.
The BPLA has been accepting donations at the rate of MMK 120,000 (approximately USD 28) per bag of rice. Myanmar diaspora communities abroad have been actively contributing to this effort.
The campaign period, designated from December 12 to January 12, had achieved 46% of its target—872 bags of rice—by January 4. As of January 8, an additional 600 bags are still required to meet the goal. A supporter from the San Francisco Spring Revolution families mentioned to Radio NUG that they felt deeply motivated to contribute after watching the documentary “Meeting the BPLA: Part One – Journey to the Liberated Territories,” directed by veteran journalist U Khin Maung Soe.

On the occasion of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 80th birthday, her son, Ko Htein Lin, shared a heartfelt message via social media on January 9, accompanied by a video. He expressed his wish to extend more humanitarian aid to those suffering in Myanmar.

๐๐ 3. U.S. Imposes Sanctions on Myanmar Military-Owned Telecommunications Company “Mytel”
January 9
The U.S. Department of Commerce has announced the inclusion of Myanmar’s Mytel, a military-owned telecommunications company, in its sanctions list, according to a report by VOA Burmese. This measure took effect on January 6, as part of updated export control regulations.
The updated sanctions list includes 13 entities, among them one major enterprise from Myanmar. These updates, implemented by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), aim to restrict exports related to production and security concerns.
The decision to sanction Mytel was made by the U.S. End-User Review Committee (ERC), which includes representatives from the Departments of Commerce, State, Defense, Energy, and Treasury. The sanctions are based on actions deemed inconsistent with U.S. national security and foreign policy.
Specifically, Mytel has been accused of providing financial and surveillance support to the Myanmar military junta. This assistance has allegedly enabled the junta to track and target individuals and organizations, leading to severe human rights violations.
Under the sanctions, exports, re-exports, and transfers of goods to Mytel will require special licensing, and all license applications are expected to be denied, the statement clarified.

๐๐ 4. KPF Encourages All Members of the People’s Defense Forces to Join the Revolution
January 9
An officer from the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) who recently joined the Khakaborazi People’s Defense Force (KPF) has called on all members of the PDF to unite with the people and revolt against the military dictatorship.
The KPF released a video message on January 8, in which the officer urged all members of the PDF to choose between continuing to serve the oppressive military regime or joining the people in their fight for freedom.
"In the current situation, there are only two options: work for the people’s revolution or work for the military dictatorship. I chose to stand with the people and join KPF in the fight to overthrow the oppressive military regime," the officer stated.
He further clarified that this is not an ethnic or territorial conflict but rather a struggle for liberation from the military dictatorship that has ruled the country unjustly for decades through violence and oppression.
"We want everyone to understand that this is a people’s revolutionary fight to free the nation from the clutches of the military dictatorship. We must ensure there is no internal harm or conflict among our local communities. We urge all members of the PDF to join the revolutionary forces working towards the downfall of the military regime," the officer emphasized.
The KPF is an armed group working in alliance with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
In late 2024, the KIA recaptured key areas within Kachin Special Region-1, including Panwar, Chipwi, Sadung, Kanpitee, Sawlaw, Phemaw, Lansa, and Kanphan. Records show that some members of the PDF also collaborated with the KIA and defected to the revolutionary side during this campaign.

๐๐ 5. Aung San Shield Campaign Deadline Extended Due to Low Participation
January 9
The Aung San Shield Campaign has extended its deadline due to low participation, according to an announcement made by the Aung San Generation Forces on January 9.
"The Aung San Generation comrades remain steadfast on the frontlines. We are doing our best to fulfill our responsibilities, but there are still significant needs. We ask for your continued support to address these gaps.
The 'Protector' campaign, which aims to supply bulletproof vests, has only reached 10.51% of its target as of the original deadline. The campaign has faced significant challenges. Since one set of bulletproof vests can save a comrade’s life, we’ve decided to extend the campaign until January 31," the announcement stated.
During the extended period, supporters can contribute to the campaign with $10 per ticket to help provide lifesaving protective gear.

๐๐ 6. "Heritage of the Revolution" Campaign Urges Support for Remaining Tickets
January 9
The "Heritage of the Revolution" campaign has called for support for the remaining tickets as of January 9.
"Do not underestimate them because they are fragile like flowers. The female revolutionaries are delicate yet resilient like steel flowers. If you’ve seen their videos and photos during military training, you’ll notice they work just as hard as men. They endure the same hardships, fight in battles, and smile through hunger and deprivation.
They remain passionate and determined to achieve victory. That’s why we, as the people, must do everything we can to support them," the campaign urged.
Proceeds from the campaign will be allocated as follows:
30% for the general expenses of female revolutionaries,
30% for displaced women and children,
30% for imprisoned women and youth, and
10% for the Ministry of Women, Youth, and Child Affairs.

๐๐ 7. Revolutionary Singer Maung Maung Sein Performs for Captive Soldiers in Sagaing
January 9
In Sagaing Region’s Military District No. 1, revolutionary singer Maung Maung Sein performed for captive soldiers, according to his announcement on January 9.
"Defecting to the light and being a captive are not the same. Defection is an act of awakening, while being a captive often results from participating in the atrocities of war—burning villages, killing civilians, and waging unjust battles.
When meeting these captives, their actions may seem unforgivable, but we encourage them to change their perspectives, foster unity, and see the truth. Even if they have committed inhumane acts in the past, they can still choose to spend the rest of their lives with dignity—serving the nation as honorable citizens, being good sons to their parents, and responsible fathers to their families," Maung Maung Sein said.
During the event, some of the captives were also given the opportunity to sing. Most captives appeared to be in good spirits.
This news was reported by Radio NUG correspondents Min Thihan and Ko Khant.
