๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. NUG Adds 30 Junta-Run Embassies and Consulates to the Blacklist for Collaborating with the Terrorist Military Regime

February 22
Radio NUG

Since the unlawful seizure of power by the terrorist military regime, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the junta has continued to comply with its directives. This includes pressuring civil servants who stand with the people and the truth, concealing ongoing atrocities, and collaborating with the military dictatorship to disseminate false information to the international community. As a result, employees of these junta-controlled embassies and consulates, who actively serve as accomplices to the regime, have been blacklisted by the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Notifications No. (4/2021) and (1/2022), announced on February 22.

Despite the junta’s continued perpetration of war crimes and crimes against humanity against the people, its diplomatic offices continue to spread false propaganda internationally. Instead of fulfilling their duty to assist and protect Myanmar citizens abroad, they actively obstruct the passport renewal process and other consular services, making it increasingly difficult for Myanmar nationals to stay and work overseas.

Given their direct involvement in facilitating the junta’s unlawful oppression and conscription, the NUG has reaffirmed previous blacklisting measures. Additionally, under Notification No. (1/2025) for the third blacklist round, 17 individuals have been added, while Notification No. (2/2025) for the fourth blacklist round includes another 13 individuals.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 5. FATF Maintains Myanmar on the Blacklist for Money Laundering Concerns

February 20
Radio NUG

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) announced that Myanmar will remain on its blacklist during its meeting held in Paris, France, from February 17 to 21.

"Myanmar has seen an increase in money laundering and terrorist financing, while significant strategic deficiencies persist in its countermeasures," FATF stated in its official announcement.

The meeting was attended by the junta-appointed Central Bank Governor, Daw Than Than Swe, who claimed that the regime had amended anti-terrorism laws, laws related to evidence management, and was in the process of revising the anti-money laundering law. However, FATF concluded that Myanmar had not yet fully complied with the required measures and decided to keep it on the high-risk jurisdiction list.

Since the military coup, FATF has categorized Myanmar as a high-risk country (blacklist) alongside North Korea and Iran, starting in 2022.

As a result, Myanmar ranks among the worst in Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, standing at 12th from the bottom out of 180 countries.
