It has been reported that the National League for Democracy (NLD) will convene a Central Committee meeting. According to an official announcement, the interim 5th meeting of the NLD Second Central Committee will be held via Zoom on February 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 2. Mandalay Region's Interim Political Coordination and Drafting Committee Granted Four-Month Extension by Regional Parliament

The Mandalay Region's Interim Political Coordination and Drafting Committee has been granted a four-month term extension, with parliamentary approval secured today. The Special Session (1/2025) of the Mandalay Regional Parliament commenced today at 9:00 a.m.

During this session, the following activities took place:

The parliamentary speaker assumed his position and declared the session open.

The agenda was formally presented and distributed in advance.

The attendance status of parliament members was reported.

The parliamentary Legal Committee Chairperson proposed a motion to extend the second term of the Interim Political Coordination and Drafting Committee by four months.

Parliamentary approval was subsequently obtained.

The session concluded successfully at 9:45 a.m., with 82% attendance of parliament members.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. Insein Prison Military Tribunal Sentences Shwe Pyi Thar Strike Committee Members to Three Years' Hard Labor Imprisonment

The Insein Prison military tribunal, under the authority of the junta, sentenced Shwe Pyi Thar Strike Committee members Yan Naung Kyaw Win and Thet Htoo Zaw to three years of hard labor under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code.

According to the Shwe Pyi Thar Strike Committee, the sentence was handed down on the morning of February 6. The two youth activists had been unlawfully detained since December 10 last year, coinciding with International Human Rights Day. On that day, they joined a peaceful demonstration holding banners promoting justice and human rights.

The junta arrested them later that night while they were staying at a motel in Ward 8, Shwe Pyi Thar Township. The arrest was reportedly based on guest list information. Despite the unjust imprisonment, the Shwe Pyi Thar Strike Committee asserted that it would continue its fight against the dictatorship until its complete eradication.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 4. Allegations of Financial Extortion Inside Pathein Prison

The Myanmar Political Prisoners Network (PPNM) reported on February 7 that certain wardens and senior prisoners in Pathein Prison are collaborating to extort money, beginning with the sale of light bulbs for prison cells.

Although prison authorities are responsible for providing essential living arrangements, they have reportedly failed to do so, leading to financial exploitation by prison officials and senior prisoners.

Additionally, political prisoners face severe challenges, including insufficient food and access to potable water, forcing them to purchase overpriced goods at the prison canteen. Reports indicate that only three types of curry and seven packets of coffee are permitted per parcel delivery for detainees.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 5. Composer of Anti-Dictatorship Anthem "Kabar Ma Kye Bu" Passes Away

Naing Myanmar, the renowned composer of the revolutionary song "Kabar Ma Kye Bu" ("The World Won't Fall Apart"), feared by dictators, passed away at 7:45 a.m. on February 7.

Naing Myanmar began his musical career in the 1983–1984 period by releasing his own album Naing Myanmar Nidan. Throughout his career, he composed nearly 5,000 songs, including many that remain unreleased.

At the time of his passing, he was 68 years old. He is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter, and three grandchildren. Notably, he was the father of singer Byuha, who is currently detained by the junta.

The funeral service for Naing Myanmar will be held on February 9 at Yay Way Cemetery, with further announcements regarding the time of the burial to follow.
