๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 1. NUG Foreign Minister Says Indian MPs’ Statements Highlight Myanmar’s Declining Sovereignty Due to Military Coup

The statements made by certain Indian state parliament members regarding reclaiming Myanmar’s Kabaw Valley and integrating Chin State into India highlight how the military coup has led to a decline in the country’s sovereignty, said National Unity Government (NUG) Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung in an interview with People’s Spring.

“The military unlawfully seized power from a democratically elected government and imprisoned civilian leaders. Moreover, it has been oppressing the people, the rightful owners of sovereignty, causing them immense suffering both physically and mentally on a daily basis. As a result, our country’s sovereignty has become increasingly fragile and compromised,” Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung remarked.

She further stated that during the Spring Revolution, citizens from all regions and ethnicities of Myanmar have been fighting with a strong sense of duty to restore national dignity and sovereignty to the people. She emphasized that the revolutionary movement is firmly committed to establishing a Federal Democratic Union, which is essential for Myanmar to regain its international standing. She also expressed confidence that the statements made by the two Indian state MPs do not reflect the official stance of the Indian central government in New Delhi.

“Our primary and unwavering focus is to restore our nation’s sovereignty to its rightful state,” she asserted.

On March 10, during a session of the Indian Upper House of Parliament, Manipur state MP Leishemba Sanajaoba submitted a proposal urging the Indian central government to reclaim the Kabaw Valley region—currently part of Myanmar’s Tamu Township—and incorporate it into Manipur State.

Reports also indicate that armed groups from Manipur have been increasing their presence and activities along the India-Myanmar border. Additionally, local sources in Tamu Township have confirmed that armed members of the Meitei separatist group, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), have been deployed along the border.

In 2024, during clashes in Tamu Township, Indian armed group members were reportedly involved in attacks against revolutionary forces in collaboration with the Myanmar military.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 3. NUG Representative Attends Gender Equality Parliamentary Meeting at the UN Headquarters

On March 11, Daw Myat Thee Thar Tun, Chairperson of the International Relations Committee representing Myanmar, attended the Parliaments and Beijing +30: Resisting the Backlash and Shifting Paradigms Towards Gender Equality parliamentary meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event was jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and UN Women.

During the discussions, Daw Myat Thee Thar Tun emphasized that on February 1, 2021, the terrorist military, led by Min Aung Hlaing, staged a coup. While the military managed to seize control of parliamentary buildings, it failed to gain legitimacy based on the people’s mandate.

She further stated that the coup led to the arrest of Myanmar’s pro-democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other elected leaders, bringing the country’s democratic transition to a halt. Additionally, the military’s actions reversed progress in women’s political participation. The junta has systematically suppressed female leaders, activists, and organizational heads, increasing gender-based violence and silencing women’s voices in decision-making. The coup has also severely restricted women’s involvement in politics and leadership movements, further hindering gender equality.

At the conference, Daw Myat Thee Thar Tun urged international stakeholders to support the release of female political prisoners in Myanmar, to advocate for fundamental human rights, and to assist women leaders facing oppression and violence. She also called for collective action to safeguard women’s political rights.

๐Ÿ“Œ๐Ÿ“Œ 6. HRW Calls on ASEAN and Major Asian Nations to Oppose Junta’s Planned Elections

On March 11, Human Rights Watch (HRW) issued a statement urging ASEAN countries and major Asian nations to completely reject the military junta’s planned elections.

HRW also emphasized that the international community should refrain from providing any technical assistance for the election. Specifically, it called on ASEAN member states, Myanmar’s neighboring countries, and influential Asian nations such as Japan, South Korea, and India to refuse recognition of the junta-led election.

HRW pointed out that free and fair elections cannot take place under the military’s violent repression, including the arrest of elected civilian leaders and ongoing nationwide atrocities. The statement also highlighted that the junta has lost control of significant territories to revolutionary forces, making it impossible to conduct elections in many parts of the country.
