May 19
A civilian sheltering in an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp was killed by junta artillery shelling in Um Ma Tee Village, Naung Cho Township, Ta’ang Region (Military Command Region 2), according to a press statement issued by the PSLF/TNLA Information and Public Relations Department.
The incident occurred at 8:00 a.m. on May 18, when junta troops fired upon the IDP camp located in Um Ma Tee Village. The victim, U Aik Hlaing, a 27-year-old man and son of U Aik San and Daw Aye Htwan, was struck and killed instantly.
Despite the absence of any active clashes in Naung Cho Township, which is under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA), junta forces have continued to target civilian populations with daily aerial bombardments, drone strikes, and heavy artillery shelling.
Although the junta extended a one-month ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, 2025, it has continued its ground offensives, drone operations, and aerial assaults within the Ta’ang region, in clear violation of the ceasefire terms.
The PSLF/TNLA warned that despite the junta’s declared ceasefire extension, daily bombings continue, and urged civilians to maintain constant vigilance and take protective measures against the junta’s airstrikes, drone attacks, and heavy artillery bombardments.
