Radio NUG

In Nyaung Lay Pin Township, Bago Region, a captured Pyu Saw Htee leader named Hlain Min has confessed to perpetrating war crimes — including mass killings — in collaboration with the military junta.

A video confession from Hlai Min was released on May 2 by the Southern Military Region, No. (27) Strategic Command, and No. (2) Sub-Military Command.

According to his testimony, between 2023 and February 2025, junta battalions LIB (20), IB (51), LIB (584), as well as LIB (349), IB (350), IB (440), and LIB (8), participated in killings of civilians in Nyaung Lay Pin Township.

Among these atrocities, key perpetrators were identified as:

Captain Nay Lin, Major Kyaw Swar Lin, and Major Zaw Myo Htut from LIB (20);

Major Chit Ko Win from IB (59);

An unnamed Major from IB (51); and

The Deputy Battalion Commander of LIB (584).

These officers not only executed the mass killings but also reportedly ordered troops to murder civilians and destroy their remains.

The massacres involved groups of 5 to 9 civilians per incident, who were shot, burned alive, or beheaded, according to Hlai Min’s confession.

He also revealed that in every area they reached in Nyaung Lay Pin Township, civilians were arbitrarily arrested and extorted for money, while women were sexually exploited for payment. Additionally, civilians were forcibly conscripted eight times, resulting in 38 male civilians being seized to serve as soldiers.

Hlai Min stated:

“I have committed numerous offenses against the people. I now deeply regret my actions. Because of this remorse, I am ready to accept whatever punishment the people impose on me, with full accountability.”

Hlai Min, along with fellow Pyu members — Mae Gyi, Min Maw Oo, Kyaw Kyaw Oo, Thein Thei, and his wife Ma Ya Min — were reportedly arrested by PDF forces while swimming near the Kadetchuang Waterfall at the foot of Kyait Ti Yo Mountain in Kyauk Hto Township, Mon State.
