📌📌 1. Sagaing Strike Forces Record Abuses by Prison Authorities Aiding the Military Junta’s Survival

June 15

The Sagaing Regional Strike Forces have revealed that they are documenting the abusive treatment carried out by prison authorities who continue to live comfortably under the military junta and actively support its prolonged survival.

This statement was issued following reports that political prisoners, including Ko Wai Moe Naing, were subjected to beatings and torture by prison officials.

According to the report, on June 11, political prisoners who had been unlawfully detained in Monywa Prison were shackled and transferred to Obo Prison in Mandalay under the supervision of prison authorities.

Among those transferred were Ko Wai Moe Naing, a prominent leader of the people’s strike in Monywa Township, and Ko Man Zar Myay Mun, a strike leader from Chaung-U Township, as confirmed by the Sagaing Strike Forces.

Upon arrival at Obo Prison, the political prisoners were reportedly beaten and tortured by prison staff using batons and iron rods. Despite injuries sustained from the assault, they were denied any medical treatment, according to the statement.

It was also reported that both Ko Wai Moe Naing and Ko Man Zar Myay Mun were placed in solitary confinement with leg shackles, and not allowed access to medical care for their injuries.

The Sagaing Regional Strike Forces stated that prison authorities acting as enforcers of the military dictatorship must be held accountable for the health, safety, and lives of political prisoners, including township strike leaders who have been subjected to torture. The group warned that in the not-too-distant future, the people will demand justice and accountability through public trials.

📌📌 4. GSCB Urges Vigilance in Upcoming Public Campaign Honoring Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 80th Birthday

June 15

The General Strike Coordination Body (GSCB) has urged the public to remain fully alert and aware of security risks while participating in the upcoming commemorative campaigns marking the 80th birthday of democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Scheduled for June 19, the birthday will be honored through two major public mobilization efforts: the “Flower Strike” and the “Blue Shirt Campaign.” The GSCB issued its reminder on June 15, encouraging safe and vigilant participation.

The commemorative efforts are intended to both honor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and call for the unconditional and immediate release of all political prisoners, while also rejecting the sham elections planned by the military junta.

The first of these campaigns, the “Flower Strike,” encourages the public to offer red roses or any accessible flowers at altars, pagodas, or shrines, or to present them as gifts to others, expressing reverence and solidarity. GSCB emphasized the importance of maintaining full awareness and caution, particularly for those engaging in on-ground flower offerings.

The second campaign, the “Blue Shirt Campaign,” calls on participants to wear blue clothing—shirts, longyis, pants, or headscarves—as a symbol of support for the release of political prisoners.

These coordinated campaigns will span eight days, from June 14 to June 21. GSCB noted that individuals are free to participate on any day or in any form that is convenient for them, emphasizing inclusivity and flexibility.
