๐๐ 3. Belarusian Universities Providing Training to Myanmar Military Cadets
July 16
According to Justice For Myanmar, multiple Belarusian universities are currently offering training and education to Myanmar military junta students.
The institutions involved include:
- Belarusian State University (BSU)
- Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR)
- Belarusian State Technological University (BSTU)
These universities are reported to be providing advanced military-oriented training programs, thereby assisting the Myanmar junta in its capacity to conduct violent operations against civilians.
- Belarusian State University (BSU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Yangon and other institutions to admit junta-affiliated students. Ten students from the military regime have already been accepted, receiving instruction in military law, geospatial intelligence, and other related disciplines under defense departments.
- Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR) is particularly focused on training junta students in radio-electronic engineering relevant to air defense systems. These students reportedly come from Myanmar’s state-run arms manufacturing facilities, including:
- No. (4) Defense Industry (Naypyitaw)
- No. (20) Defense Industry (Magway)
- No. (10) Myanmar Heavy Industries (Mandalay)
- Belarusian State Technological University (BSTU) has also established a military training department focused on ground weaponry and logistics. In May 2025, BSTU’s rector reportedly met with senior Myanmar military officers and 34 Myanmar students who had recently completed advanced military studies.
Justice For Myanmar condemned these partnerships, stating that the universities are not only awarding degrees to perpetrators of war crimes but are also empowering them to escalate their capacity to kill, thereby actively abetting the Myanmar military’s atrocities.
