๐๐ 1. NUG Urges Conscripts of the Terrorist Military Council to Defect and Seek Refuge with Resistance Forces at Every Possible Opportunity
July 21
Radio NUG
The National Unity Government (NUG) has strongly urged youths who were forcibly conscripted as new soldiers due to arbitrary arrests by the terrorist military council to remain vigilant of their surroundings and to contact resistance forces at every favorable opportunity in order to swiftly defect and seek refuge among the people.
It has also been announced that all new conscripts who defect to the people’s side will be warmly welcomed by the National Unity Government and its allied ethnic revolutionary organizations.
The terrorist military council, under the leadership of coup leader Min Aung Hlaing and his accomplices, has reportedly conscripted nearly 70,000 youths under the guise of the so-called “People’s Military Service Law,” forcibly sending them to military training camps and deploying them to frontlines in an attempt to counter its military losses.
Moreover, the junta is reportedly striving to forcibly conscript at least 4,000 individuals per week, and due to frequent shortfalls in reaching this quota, has escalated arbitrary arrests and forcible conscriptions of any youths they encounter.
It has also been reported that the junta’s military service law grants them unchecked authority to implement such measures arbitrarily, employing various coercive tactics, thereby recklessly endangering the lives and futures of young people.
Nationwide, travel movements have been tightly restricted. Arbitrary arrests of youths are occurring at town and village entry points and along major roads. Additionally, the military is developing a National Service Information Management System (NSIMS) using technology to systematically register and track youths, effectively preparing to control and exploit them as if they were mere livestock.
According to statements from defecting conscripts on the ground, the terrorist military council has been cruelly using forcibly conscripted individuals as human shields in frontline combat zones. They have also reportedly forced them to use narcotics and driven them into battle, which clearly reflects the junta’s utter disregard for the lives of these young people.
Given these conditions, there has been a growing trend of new conscripts defecting from the junta to the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) and ethnic revolutionary groups, seeking to avoid continued exploitation under the terrorist regime. NUG emphasized that this trend represents the rightful and moral decision of conscientious youths who no longer wish to serve under the junta’s oppressive machinery.

๐๐ 5. Airstrike Awareness Campaign Conducted in Htigyaing Township
July 21
Radio NUG
The Ministry of Human Rights under the National Unity Government (NUG) has announced that it is conducting public awareness campaigns on the dangers of junta airstrikes in various townships across Sagaing Region, where the terrorist military junta has repeatedly launched aerial attacks targeting civilians.
In parts of Htigyaing Township, Sagaing Region, airstrike safety awareness campaigns were conducted in some village schools and IDP shelters during July. These included not only informational sessions about airstrike risks but also demonstrations and practical air raid drills, led by village-level human rights officers, according to reports.
In certain villages, People’s Defense Force (PDF) battalions also collaborated with human rights officers in implementing these training sessions.
The educational sessions are reportedly based on materials issued by NUG’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, which provide guidance on preventive measures and precautions to take during air raids. These were then shared and explained by human rights officers to local communities.
It was also reported that during the course of some of these awareness sessions, junta fighter jets flew overhead, forcing villagers to practice real-time evasive maneuvers and take shelter immediately.
This news was reported by Radio NUG correspondents Tharki and Khur Shel.
