๐๐ 1. On the 8th Anniversary of Violence Against the Rohingya, NUG Reaffirms Its Stand for Justice
August 25
Radio NUG
In 2017, the terrorist military group committed brutal atrocities against the Rohingya population, carrying out grave crimes. The National Unity Government (NUG), in response, strongly condemned the military’s actions and declared its solidarity with the suffering Rohingya community. NUG reiterated in its statement that it continues to stand firmly and steadfastly alongside the Rohingya in the pursuit of justice.
The statement recalled that, as a result of these atrocities, hundreds of thousands of Rohingya were forced to flee to Bangladesh and, to this day, have not been able to return to their homeland. The NUG expressed deep concern and dissatisfaction over this continuing displacement.
At a time when the people of Myanmar are waging the Spring Revolution to resist and dismantle the terrorist military dictatorship, NUG stressed the necessity of eradicating the regime at its roots in order to ensure human rights and justice for all people, including the Rohingya.
NUG reaffirmed its declared Policy on the Rohingya, stating that in accordance with this policy, it stands in unity with the Rohingya people.
It also expressed concern over the continuing displacement of Rohingya populations, while affirming that the people of Myanmar are devoting their full strength, wisdom, and efforts toward the liberation of the entire nation from the oppression of dictatorship. This position was declared on the solemn 8th anniversary of the Rohingya people’s experience of brutal violence.

๐๐ 3. UK Ambassador Calls for Justice for Violence Against Rohingya
August 25
Radio NUG
Marking the atrocities committed by the Myanmar military against the Rohingya community in 2017, Andrew Jackson, Head of the British Embassy in Yangon, affirmed the UK Government’s continuing commitment to justice and accountability for the crimes and ongoing violence against the Rohingya people.
“In 2017, at this very time of year, the Myanmar military carried out brutal attacks against Rohingya communities. Today, we remember the lives lost to these horrific military atrocities, the families torn apart, the devastated communities, and the people whose lives continue to bear deep scars. Those communities are still suffering the severe consequences of those brutal crimes even to this day,” he said.
Jackson also highlighted that, across Myanmar, civilians continue to face hardship from ongoing conflicts, particularly in Rakhine State, where humanitarian and food crises have worsened significantly.
He further stated:
“The UK Government’s commitment to the protection of Rohingya communities remains steadfast. Equally, our support for justice and accountability for atrocities committed anywhere in Myanmar remains unchanged. This includes ongoing efforts through the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the UN Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM).”

๐๐ 4. JFM Exposes KBZ and Max Companies’ Funding of Border Fence to Prevent Rohingya Repatriation
August 25
Radio NUG
Justice For Myanmar (JFM) reported that two major Myanmar crony companies—KBZ and Max—funded the construction of a Bangladesh-Myanmar border fence designed to prevent Rohingya refugees from returning to their homeland.
According to JFM’s report, in 2017 many companies and organizations donated millions of dollars directly to the military regime in support of its so-called “clearance operations.”
These companies were documented by the UN Fact-Finding Mission (FFM), which has called for criminal investigations into their involvement.
The FFM’s report assessed that these companies directly enabled crimes against humanity and “other inhumane acts,” and urged that they be prosecuted. However, JFM pointed out that to this day, no legal action has been taken against them, and they continue to profit from international crimes with complete impunity.

๐๐ 5. Rare Earth Mining in Eastern Shan State’s NDAA Territory Expands Rapidly, Minerals Extracted and Exported to China
August 25
Radio NUG
The Shan Human Rights Foundation reported that within the territory controlled by the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA), also known as the “Mong La” group, near the Mekong River in eastern Shan State, rare earth mines have expanded dramatically over the past four years.
Satellite images taken in May 2025 revealed as many as 19 mining sites in Mong Yawn Township. In 2021, only three mines existed in the area; today, 16 are operational while the remaining three are still under construction.
A representative of the Shan Human Rights Foundation said:
“All the profits from these rare earth mines go directly to China. The local people gain absolutely nothing from them.”
The Mong Yawn mines are located less than 40 kilometers from the Mekong River, where the in-situ leaching method is being used to extract rare earth minerals. This method employs chemically filled circular tanks and pipelines to dissolve and recover the minerals underground.
Most of the mines are situated in mountainous terrain, 4,000–5,000 feet above sea level, only about 4 kilometers from the Chinese border. Water from these sites flows into the Nam Hka stream, which then feeds into the Lwe River, and subsequently merges with the Mekong River near Sop Lwe, close to Long Nam Tha District in Laos.
The Shan Human Rights Foundation emphasized:
“These mines are creating benefits for China, while China in turn provides support to the military council. Indirectly, that means these rare earth mines are empowering the junta. Therefore, we are calling for an immediate halt to the mining operations.”
On August 7, it was learned that U Aung Aung, the junta-appointed Shan State Minister, together with Major General Soe Hlaing, commander of the Triangle Region Military Headquarters, visited Mong La to meet NDAA leaders. However, the details of their discussions were not disclosed.

๐๐ 6. Corruption by Former Air Force Colonel Nyi Nyi Aung Damages Reputation of Shan South Red Rooster Association
August 25
Radio NUG
According to TGI Support Revolution, the reputation of the Shan South Red Rooster Association, once highly respected in Taunggyi, has been severely tarnished due to the self-serving misconduct of U Nyi Nyi Aung, a former Air Force colonel.
After being forced into retirement from Yangon Air Base in late 2021 following the coup, Nyi Nyi Aung became chair of the Shan South Red Rooster Association. Since then, he has been accused of misappropriating resources.
Following major flooding in Shan South last year, he allegedly resold relief items donated by international organizations and domestic donors, profiting heavily and purchasing numerous land plots in Pindaya.
When donors discovered this misconduct, many began warning each other not to donate through the Shan South Red Rooster Association during this year’s earthquake response. As a result, the group’s reputation—previously strong and trustworthy—has deteriorated badly.
It was further reported that Nyi Nyi Aung frequently quarrels with other state and regional Red Rooster Associations, verbally abusing them, and has removed the Red Rooster logo from the association’s official vehicle to use it as his own family car while traveling around the country.
Recently, in Lashio, he reportedly committed physical harassment and verbal abuse against women members in public, prompting complaints to the Nay Pyi Taw Red Rooster headquarters.
In addition, food supplies donated by international NGOs and rice from the WFP intended for IDPs in active conflict zones such as Mobye, Pekhon, Saung Pyone, Si Hsai, and Nyaung Shwe townships, as well as displaced populations arriving in Taunggyi from northern Shan, were allegedly resold for personal gain instead of being fully distributed.

๐๐ 7. “Bomb Shelter Campaign” Targets 15 Million Kyat in Donations, Runs from August 25 to September 3
August 25
Radio NUG
The Students Without Borders initiative of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions (ABFSU) announced the launch of a 10-day “Bomb Shelter Campaign,” running from August 25 to September 3, with the goal of raising 15 million kyat.
The campaign comes amid intensified airstrikes: in August 2025 alone, a single day’s air raid by the junta killed 32 civilians. On the same day, more than 100 artillery shells were fired into western Demoso.
Those wishing to contribute can donate through the University of Yangon Students’ Union (UYSU) Facebook Page and the Students Without Borders Facebook Page.
The ABFSU urged students and the public, both inside Myanmar and abroad, to support the campaign as much as possible, emphasizing the urgent need to protect civilians from the junta’s escalating aerial bombardments.
These reports were sent by Radio NUG correspondents Khur Shel and Pa De Phoe.
