📌📌 1. KNU Brigade 6 declares that effective action will be taken against those participating in the junta’s planned election

August 31

KNU Brigade 6 has prohibited any involvement, assistance, or support in the election organized by the terrorist military junta and has issued a stern warning that individuals or organizations failing to comply will face decisive action.

On the evening of August 30, KNU Brigade 6, under the Karen National Union (KNU), released its official position regarding the upcoming election planned by the coup-installed military council.

The statement highlighted that the military junta, which seized power unlawfully, continues to arbitrarily use the now-defunct 2008 Constitution as a tool to maintain long-term oppression and control over the entire population.

Since the election is being held after the junta has already committed acts of violence, intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and repression against the people, KNU Brigade 6 pointed out that such an election cannot resolve the ongoing political crisis.

KNU Brigade 6 emphasized that this election will not be free or fair. Rather, it is designed solely to secure power for the generals of the military council, their families, their associates, and the military-backed proxy parties. The ethnic peoples of Myanmar will gain no benefit from it.

Therefore, KNU Brigade 6 urged all individuals, religious leaders, civil society groups, NGOs, and INGOs within its territory not to participate in or support the junta’s election in any form.

The statement further warned that any individuals or organizations who fail to respect and comply with the directives of KNU Brigade 6 will face effective punishment under the Kawthoolei Law.

Previously, on August 26, the KNU Central Committee had also declared that anyone participating in the junta’s election would be regarded as historical traitors, comparable to those who water a poisonous tree.

Similarly, KNU Brigade 5 of Papun District also issued a warning that it will take decisive action against anyone involved in the junta-organized election.
