๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 1. Soldier Who Defected to AA Reveals Tatmadaw Fired Weapons Tied with Monk Robes and Religious Scriptures

August 6

A soldier who defected to the Arakan Army (AA) revealed that Myanmar military troops were firing weapons wrapped in monk robes and adorned with Buddhist scriptures, according to a statement released by the AA on August 5, citing the defector’s testimony from July 27.

The defector, Nay Thu Ya Myo, stated that Tatmadaw troops were attaching Buddhist texts and tying pieces of monk robes (htamisar) onto firearms and munitions before firing.

He added that higher-ranking officers were spreading propaganda that AA fighters attack using underhanded tactics and that captured soldiers are fed human flesh from fallen comrades before being sent back to fight, as part of a psychological campaign within the military ranks.

Nay Thu Ya Myo explained that soldiers were instructed to tie monk robe fragments around grenades and artillery shells as well, and that it was a common practice for weapons under their control to bear such religious or symbolic attachments.

He served under Light Infantry Battalion 15, subordinate to Division 99, and was a newly inducted soldier from Training Batch No. 10, who defected from the battlefield in Patan and joined the AA.

He further shared that the Tatmadaw propagates false claims that AA kills defectors—alleging that AA interrogates them and then forces them to dig their own graves before beating them to death with bamboo poles.

Nay Thu Ya Myo said that he personally witnessed a stark difference between the military’s internal propaganda and what actually happens, encouraging other soldiers still in the military to reach out and defect to the Arakan Army.

๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ 3. Public Alert Issued Over Scam Donations in Shwebo Using Forged Letters Under the Name of the Township People's Defense Team

August 6

The Shwebo Township People's Defense Team has issued a public warning that fraudulent individuals are using the name of the defense team to solicit fake donations from local business owners in Shwebo town, using forged official letters.

On August 6, the Shwebo Township People's Defense Team released an official statement informing the public that:

“We have received information that certain individuals are misusing the name of the Shwebo Township People's Defense Team to solicit donations from local business owners in Shwebo town. They are using forged documents to falsely request donations, demand money, and even send threatening letters to extort funds. These fraudulent letters often include the name ‘People's Defense Force (PDF)’ and bear the logo of an actual military battalion, in an attempt to deceive and mislead the public.”

The statement firmly emphasized that the Shwebo Township People's Defense Team has never issued letters to request donations of any kind from any individual or business owner. The group has never demanded money, never sent threats, nor authorized anyone to solicit on its behalf for any reason—whether it be for ammunition, medical supplies, daily necessities, or other needs.

They clarified that:

“The Shwebo Township People's Defense Team has not, even once, accepted donations through letters nor appointed any representative to collect funds on our behalf.”

The group further stated that any instance of using the defense team’s name to solicit donations, collect protection fees, or send threatening messages will be investigated and prosecuted with decisive and effective action.
