๐๐ 2. Myanmar Ambassador urges action as military violence against children escalates
September 4
Radio NUG
In Myanmar, military-related violence against civilians, including children, has been intensifying, and children are suffering the most severe consequences of this crisis, said U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during the UNICEF Executive Board’s second regular session of 2025 at UN Headquarters in New York on September 2.
He stated that Myanmar’s crisis has now entered its fifth year, with the military’s violence worsening children’s conditions. Children are facing forced recruitment, child labor, and exploitation.
According to the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) 2024 report, the military killed 248 children, deliberately targeted even those as young as two years old, subjected them to torture and inhumane treatment, and arbitrarily detained them. As a result, the Myanmar military has been placed on the UN’s “list of shame” for committing grave violations against children.
Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun urged the international community to take timely and effective actions to address Myanmar’s crisis and called on the UN Security Council to refer the Myanmar situation to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Additionally, he called for halting the military’s airstrikes by imposing sanctions on aviation fuel and arms sales.
He stressed that only by bringing an absolute end to military dictatorship and establishing a federal democratic union in Myanmar can children live safely, regain access to quality education and healthcare, and be protected from forced recruitment, child labor, and exploitation. He underlined that children in Myanmar have the right to live free from fear and violence, and that they are entitled to life, education, and the ability to dream of a brighter future.

๐๐ 4. 315 International Civil Society Organizations Urgently Call on ASEAN Not to Recognize Myanmar Junta’s 2025 Election
September 4
Radio NUG
A total of 315 international civil society organizations have declared the Myanmar junta’s planned 2025 election to be a “sham election” and urgently appealed to ASEAN leaders through a formal letter not to recognize it under any circumstances.
The letter, sent on September 3, stated that ASEAN’s credibility and unity depend on how it handles this matter, and it was endorsed by democracy-focused organizations from around the world.
The organizations urged ASEAN not to provide the junta with any technical or financial assistance, not to send election observers, and to instead impose targeted measures against junta leaders, their families, and affiliated businesses.
They further highlighted that the junta controls only 21 percent of the country, while the rest is governed and defended by the National Unity Government (NUG) and Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs).
The letter also pointed out that the junta has carried out more than 7,000 airstrikes against civilians, displacing over 3.5 million people.
The organizations stressed that ASEAN should engage directly only with the legitimate representatives of the Myanmar people—the NUG, NUCC, Federal Units, and EAOs—and that humanitarian assistance should be delivered through channels independent of the junta.

๐๐ 5. Fortify Rights Identifies 22 Myanmar Military Officials Responsible for War Crimes in Airstrikes Against Civilians in Kachin and Karenni States
September 4
Radio NUG
The international human rights organization Fortify Rights has identified 22 top officials of the Myanmar junta as perpetrators of war crimes committed through airstrikes targeting civilians in Kachin and Karenni States.
According to Fortify Rights’ report released on September 4, senior military leaders including Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Vice Senior General Soe Win, Chief of General Staff General Kyaw Swar Lin, and Defense Minister General Maung Maung Aye, along with eight military commands and twelve battalions, were directly involved in orchestrating and executing attacks against civilians.
The report stated that the junta’s airstrikes constitute war crimes under international law, and it urged UN member states to impose bans on aviation fuel and weapons imports to Myanmar.
Ma Chit Sein, Fortify Rights’ Lead Human Rights Investigator, explained:
“Every airstrike begins with a decision by a person in power, and we have traced those decisions through the chain of command. We have also tracked the supply chains that enabled these attacks.”
Sai Arkar, another Human Rights Investigator with Fortify Rights, added:
“The international community has tools to stop these brutal crimes, and now is the time to use them.”
Fortify Rights called on the UN Security Council to push for an aviation fuel and arms embargo on the Myanmar military and to refer the situation in Myanmar to the International Criminal Court (ICC) during the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York in September 2025.
This report was filed by Radio NUG correspondents Khur Shel and Padeh Phoe.
