๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. Chinese Central Government Invites KIO Chairman to Beijing Amid Escalating Clashes in Kachin State
During a period of intensified clashes in Kachin State, it has been reported that the Chinese Central Government invited General N’Ban La, the Chairman of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO/KIA), to Beijing. According to sources within Kachin military circles, the KIO Chairman traveled to China on December 8, 2024, to attend a meeting.
Unlike previous invitations from Chinese special envoys or regional authorities for meetings with ethnic armed groups, this meeting reportedly took place at a higher level in Beijing itself. Currently, the KIO/KIA forces are conducting a military offensive on Bhamo, the second-largest city in Kachin State, which also hosts the Command Center of the Tatmadaw's 21st Military Operations Division and numerous battalions.
Despite China’s calls for peace and warnings against conducting military operations near the border, the KIA has gained control of critical border trading hubs such as Loije and Kan Paik Ti, as well as the entirety of Special Region 1 in Kachin State. Since the military coup, the KIA has taken over 14 towns in Kachin State, along with Maw Han town and Nam Phang Ka village in northern Shan State, seizing multiple Tatmadaw battalions in the process.
