๐ฉ๐ฉ 1. KNU Condemns Aerial Bombing on Karen New Year Celebration
December 31,
Radio NUG
The Karen National Union (KNU) has issued a statement condemning the aerial bombing conducted by the military junta on December 30, during celebrations for the Karen New Year of 2764, corresponding to the first day of Thalay Thain Kut Pho (traditional Karen calendar).
The attacks targeted celebration sites in Yawkla and Thiphadohta in Du Tha Thu District, as well as Nofawthi Village in Mu Traw District. These areas hosted Karen New Year events that included festivities and sports after the official ceremonies.
The KNU described this action as an attack aimed at degrading the dignity of the Karen New Year, a cherished cultural event, and inflicting bloodshed and destruction upon its participants.
They further stated that the military’s actions reflect its role as the primary perpetrator of Myanmar’s systematic destruction and the suffering endured by its people. The KNU called on military officers who aspire for a better future to break free from the current regime and lead the creation of a new chapter in history.
The statement also urged those within the junta who genuinely seek to protect the people to join hands with revolutionary organizations in establishing a Federal Democratic Union. This is deemed essential to achieving lasting peace and transforming the armed forces into a responsible institution free of political interference.
Additionally, the KNU emphasized the gravity of these crimes, which they classified as “Crimes Against Humanity,” and reiterated the necessity for accountability through a system of truth and justice. They called for efforts to break the chain of impunity and to reform the military structure into one that serves the people rather than oppressing them.

๐ฉ๐ฉ 3. KNLA Brigade 6 Under Constant Attack by Military Junta Forces
December 31,
Radio NUG
In areas under the control of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), particularly Brigade 6 in the Kawkareik and Myawaddy regions, clashes continue as junta forces, including the State-Level "Aung Zeya Column," face repeated setbacks.
Despite efforts to advance into Myawaddy, the military column remains stuck along the Kawkareik-Myawaddy Asian Highway due to persistent attacks by KNLA-led joint revolutionary forces. The junta troops are unable to advance or retreat, suffering casualties and shortages of supplies.
According to the KNU, KNLA-led forces inflicted significant casualties on junta forces on December 31 and captured additional arms and ammunition during these clashes.
The prolonged engagement has left the junta column with dwindling weapons and rations, leading some soldiers to defy orders and surrender, raising white flags to join the revolutionary forces. The same trend is observed in other units, with defectors increasingly collaborating with the resistance movement.
In Brigade 6’s Duplaya District, the junta’s strategically important Anankwin Military Camp, which has been a historical stronghold, is under continuous siege by KNLA-led forces. Daily attacks have resulted in casualties, depletion of supplies, and logistical challenges for reinforcement troops.
The junta relies on Y-12 aircraft to deliver supplies, but even these efforts face disruption, as some parachuted goods are intercepted by the KNLA. Meanwhile, defection rates within the junta ranks continue to rise, further weakening their positions.
The resistance forces employ encirclement and guerrilla tactics to isolate junta troops and dismantle their strongholds. In response, the military resorts to heavy artillery, airstrikes, and drone attacks, some of which indiscriminately impact civilian villages. These assaults have caused civilian casualties, displacement, and extensive property damage.
The KNU declared its commitment to eradicating the junta forces and achieving lasting freedom through persistent resistance and revolutionary strategy.
